So we are looking for a 250/2500 deisel to do the job. There are lots of used ones on the market.
I've also heard many say that the new Duramax with the Allison trany is the best on the market right now (2003 or newer).
We need a truck that is a Crew Cab (that excludes Dodge except for the newer ones -- also MegaCab is low in availabilit) and it must have split bench seats.
So here is what we want.
250/2500 4x4 Deisel Long-bed Crew Cab.
Not looking for back and forth arguments, just some honest feedback on these two vehicals.
WHAT! Dodge don't have a recent model year crew cab?
I guess my '03 Dodge 2500 2wd, auto with CREW CAB isn't really that old
Do some research before you decide, Dodge makes a heck of a good 2500 / 3500 series truck. I'm actually impressed with my brothers Chevy 2500 w/ Dmax - nice truck!
Would I ever buy another Ford???? Maybe, just didn't like the prices and styling this time around.
My bad on the Dodge. Maybe just really hard to find a used one. I have a 1500 QuadCab. I love Dodges but my wife said "NO DODGES". And since she's given the OK for $15000 - $20000 I think I'd rather use my chips to push the milage down and the cost up.
I'll take another look.
Cougar X-Lite 29BHS
2006 Ford Expy 5.4L, Timbren springs, K&N FPIK, Flowmaster 50
That'll be the day my wife dictates the brand of truck I buy. On topic, out of those two choices, I'd suggest a 7.3L Ford or the Dmax. The 6.0L PSD is one I would avoid.
FWIW...If you end up looking at the Chevy/GMC try to find a 2006 or 07 classic. If you get an early 06 it will have the LLY engine with the bugs worked out and if you get the later 06 it will have the LBZ engine (which is what I have). The LBZ has more power. The 07 classic has the LBZ with the new body style. The 06 and 07 classic does not have the new emissions stuff either and they also come with the 6 speed Allison. I have no complaints about my pickup at all. Good luck on your search.

Agreed!!
To the OP, I guess we can't talk you into getting a new wife (since she obviously doesn't know much about trucks), I guess you should get the Duramax equipped GM.

1995 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT 4x4 5.9L V8 low miles, It ain't pretty, but it's paid for!
Had an arguement with brother in law once about dodge and crew cab... I said they didnt have one,(this was before the mega came out) He swore up and down they did, he said I see them all the time....
WELL, they are 4 doors, but not a crew cab but a quad cab.... they are not as comfortable and have as much room as a ford/gmc crew......

I can't speak on the Ford's because I haven't ever owned one, but I can on the GM Trucks. The GM Trucks with the Duramax/Allison is a proven combo. And of course the Chevy/GMC are the same Truck and I have owned both and there isn't any difference. I wouldn't hesitate a second of buying either the GMC/Chevy. Remember also the Duramax has the most HP and Torq of the big three. As for the fuel mileage the GM Trucks does very well considering the emmision (DPF) system, which is on all the Big three. Such a waste of fuel and little in return, only keeping the tree huggers happy. Good Luck on your choice. GBY.....
I wouldnt recommend a 6.0 to anyone(yes I had one). My B.I.L. has an 05 D/A, thats a sweet truck, I'd own one in a second. I almost bought a new one last summer, I just like the straight 6 and the looks of the Ram more. Plus my wife is only 5'1" and my 2 daughters are real small as well so the smaller quad cab is a non issue for us. Good luck whatever your choice, picking a new truck is so much fun

In that price range, you are going to be looking around at 03 and older.
Your wife? Dude... It is easier to beg for forgiveness than get permission. Just go buy what you want and bring it home. I did it, trust me, then it is what YOU want in a truck. No Dodge's huh? Oh well, you don't know what you are missing. I owned a 2001 F-350 Crew-Cab long bed. 7.3 diesel. if I was in your price range, it is what I would get.

I went from a 28' TT and an 04 Expedition to an 07 Classic 2500HD Duramax/Allison and a 31' 5th Wheel. Imagine being able to to up steep grades at 65mph, with cruise - without slowing down or downshifting...
My Expy would return about 8mpg at 65 with the old 28' trailer. I also pulled it with the Duramax and it returned almost 14 with the same route...
I would not get the 6.0L Powerstroke. I like the new F250 trucks, but the 6.4L is not near as proven as the Duramax and it doesn't get good mileage from what I have read. I can get 20mpg pretty easy with mine empty...
