Robert, U must have been to some of the Dr's offices we have been too. I think some of them could have been older than that. I usually recycle my Goldwing mags to the Dr's office. Now I guess I will have a outdoor life to give them.

Be careful the "Doctors Office Police" don't catch you leaving those magazines. I am not sure but I believe there is a State Law (in most doctor's offices anyway) that any magazine on the premisses of a waiting room has to be at least THREE years old. LOL

I do the same with my magazines. It makes me feel good, especially when I "steal" one!

See you out there,

Robert

Well thank goodness for those Doctos Office Police! My grandmother used to say "Make sure you CUT off your name label from those magazines (just marking your address wasn't good enough "in case" someone could see through the magic marker)so someone doesn't get your address and rob you." She has since departed, but she would be happy to know the waiting room is now a much safer place.

... Another popular scam here in my area concerns the automated (credit card) fuel pumps. Maybe you have seen this.... after you finish pumping your fuel, normally the "Do you want a receipt?" prompt displays and as a matter of habit I and others would just press the yes button, get our receipt and be on our way. No problem. Here's the scam, instead of the prompt being the expected "Would you like a receipt," the prompt would be "Would you like a car wash?"

Unsuspecting motorist would respond with the yes button (thinking they were requesting a receipt) and drive off not even knowing that they had paid for an unwanted and not received car wash. Additionally, if you catch the car wash question and respond with the "no" button, it takes about thirty seconds (which seems like five minutes) for "no" to register.

A friend of mine caught the car wash charge and went directly to the cashier and requested a credit be made to his account for the bait and switch car wash. The cashier actually refused. Once the police arrived, magically, the cashier had a change of heart!

I'm not sure how this qualifies as a "scam." The location has a car wash, so it asks you if you want to buy a car wash. You think that they are going to ask something else, so you press "yes" without bothering to read the question.

Suppose you go into a restaurant and, after the meal, the waitress comes to your table and asks if you want apple pie. You assumed that she was going to ask if you were ready for the check, so you say "yes" without listening to what she said. She hasn't scammed you, and you aren't an "unsuspecting diner" any more than the guy who didn't bother to read the question on the pump is an "unsuspecting motorist."

"Scam"? "Bait and switch"? At least the police probably had a good chuckle.

I haven't experienced that issue when using Rec.gov. Perhaps it's time for a change. Is there any "real" difference (i.e. available facilities) between the two?

I learn something new on this forum all the time. We wondered why we were getting Field and Stream and Hiking magazines. Never had gotten them before and didn't subscribe. We got them free for a year. I kept giving them away to friends.

Yep--rule no. 1, 2 & 3 when ordering anything on the internet, read everything. I, for one, will continue to order whenever possible on the internet, instead of phone, because I like to really read and think things over before ordering. Hate the phone because I don't have time to really look at the options. But you sure do have to look at every line on the internet. If you don't make sure to uncheck all those boxes, at the least you will be agreeing to hordes of junk mail,

So, RA is getting $15.00 total for each reservation from 1/2 from consumer and 1/2 from campground? Wow!

Campground will charge if you use RA thread

Hello To all,
Just returned from the Ky Horse Park Campground in Lexington, Ky. Nice place and plenty of room. I was in the camp store and saw a notice that said that effective immediately they will pass along a $7.50 reservation fee if you reserved through Reserve America. They indicated that this was a fee that they had been paying in the past but now due to the economy they were going to start passing it along to YOU!!
I asked them how I could avoid the fee and they said if you called the campground directly to make the reservation they would not charge the extra $7.50.
Just trying to pass this along to others to help you know what to expect for camp rate when you arrive.

Happy Camping
