Saw a commercial yesterday that La Mesa RV is going out of business here in CA (closing Davis and San Bernardino). Looks like the economic problems is hitting the RV industry as we expected.

When a dealer goes out of business - anybody know what happens to all the inventory sitting on his lot?

Now if they would close the rest of their stores in the US, the RVers would have one less piranha in the industry to worry about.

This dealer has multiple lots, will move inventory around from what I have heard

According to their website their inventory has been "drastically discounted for immediate sale." I would imagine anything left over would be moved to one of their other locations, probably San Diego.

What economic problems!?
Just a few months ago folks on this message board were adamantly defending that everything was "hunky-dory"!
Living in Southern California and being familiar with La Mesa RV over the years, it's no surprise that they are closing a few locations. Even when "times were good" and RV sales were bustling, LA Mesa RV was not particularly known for anything remarkable. However, living in a capitalist society, it is a shame that one competitor will be leaving the market. Now some other dealership will simply fill the non-remarkable void left by La Mesa RV.

So true. Even with gas prices coming down, don't expect a quick turn around in the RV industry. Financing for these things has almost dried up. GE money has dropped out, and the rest have really tightened their restrictions. There must be a bunch of dealers out there really sweating right now.

Still dabbling in the inddustry after 30 years, I still get some of the industry magazines.
Most executives of the manufacturers, as well as owners of the larger dealerships such as Lazy Days, attribute the current RV slump not to gas prices but to financing at the consummer and the dealership level.
I made a first-time visit to Simi Valley RV in Calif yesterday and their lot is packed with Class A's and towables. I was over in that area to meet with a realtor on a house we are trying to purchase in the Ventura area.
I returned home last night thanking the good Lord that I am not a salesman in the RV or real estate business in these times!
