We use a 2x3 bristly welcome matt instead. Yeah, I need to sweep dirt out of the interior once a day, but I never need to wrestle the big stupid mat at setup and tear-down. To me, its one of those things that is more trouble than it is worth. Step outta the camper onto the welcome matt, put on Tevas/Crocs and go. Whats all the extra square feet for?

We used a piece of cheap indoor/outdoor carpet from Lowes for a year. It was a mess, and never looked that great. This year I sprung for an RV mat. As noted, it does not hold water, cleans up by spraying it off, feels good to walk on and looks much nicer than the old carpet. It came in a heavy plastic bag which I use to keep it in...just throw it in the storage bin. Well worth the cash IMHO.

Thanks for the many replys!

Will a 9'x12' patio rug, when rolled up, fit into a 6" PVC pipe that comes in 10' lenghts? I guess plastic ties could be used to hold the pipe onto the rear bumper. Are end caps needed to prevent the rug from sliding out while on the road or perhaps to keep road dirt out?

I doubt the 9x12 rug will fit. Unlike carpet, the RV mats don't roll up nicely - they are too thick - but they do fold easily. Mine is actually made in several peices and sewn together. It it designed to fold on the seams.
If you go the route of the PVC tube - yes you will need end caps. And they are expensive. The standard screw on caps are $30 each. I used the glue on caps instead. I glued a cap on one end and made the other end removable by drilling a 1/2" hole through it and holding the cap in place by an 8" long screw

At RV awning mats (www.rvawingmats.com), they have bags for the mats so they can be rolled up and stored anywhere, while damp or dry or dirty. They sell the bags separately if you want to buy your mat elsewhere. They usually have specials on different sizes with the bag included, so you might want to check there first.

We use a RV rug that we purchased at Wal mart at the beach. It is easy to clean and very light weight. We just strap it to the bumper of the PUP. On our last trip my DS tracked red mud on it and when we got home I just hosed it off. The other RV rug that we have holds dirt really bad. We would keep it in a tote on the back of the truck.
