Hello:
I'm helping my son-in-law set up a Wells Cargo trailer for his business. I've installed a battery for the interior lights and the electric nose gear. Now I want to insure the battery gets cooked from over charging by installing a device that will shut off the charge from the truck when the battery is fully charged.
I've seen them advertised and I've read articles about them, but, now I can't recall what they are called or where I can get one. Help.
And, would it be a good idea to install one on my '08 Cougar TT?
Thanks

If it is connected thru the 7 pin connector of the truck to the trucks battery the trucks regulaor will control the charge to that battery as well. No need for anything else, just like on a TT or 5er.

Thanks for the information. The battery is charged through the seven pin connection.

Are you thinking of a battery isolator? An isolator will prevent current from flowing back into the truck from the cargo trailer battery, but the truck would still be able to charge the battery.
Or are you thinking of a charge controller? Solar systems need a charge controller to cut out voltage when the battery needs only the "float" charge.

I think I'll leave it just the way it is. Around here my being retired is an open invitation for the family to find things for me to do. Time to go camping for a month!
