Haven't been to Hunting Island State Park since I was about 10, I'm now 24. Me and the girlfriend went for 5 days for our one year anniversary.
It was pretty hot, especially the first day since we got there at 1:00. The campsite, 113, wasn't very shady at all, but I only saw one mosquito the whole week and that was at a different site, so I am thankful for the open campsite. We were still setting up the tent and dining canopy when our first chance to feed the deer came up.
There were so many great things to do there, we never got bored. The ocean was calm, so my boogie board was useless but very relaxing. Plenty of sand dollars and nice shells to be found. We visited the pier several times and attempted fishing but with no luck. The only thing we saw caught was some bait fish and a couple of small sting rays. Guess August is a bad fishing month. However, we did see tons of dolphins.
We also attempted crabbing but caught nothing of keeper size. I didn't even bother breaking out the shrimping net. The marshwalk was a lot of fun and saw an alligator and thousands of small crabs everywhere. We also climbed the lighthouse, where the view was absolutely amazing.
We at some great camp food, swam alot and did plenty of relaxing. Can't wait to go camping in other places. Our next stop is Yogi in the Smokies in May, and hopefully we will make it to Jekyll Island in August next year.
Enjoy a few pics:

Yeah, I was a little nervous myself with them being that close.

I love it when members post pics...Thanks!
Campground looks great. We don't see many palm trees up this way.
Glad to hear you had a good time and Happy anniversary!
p.s.
I would worry about those antlers coming down, but the ticks and insects that deer carry as well. I got a tick in the worst place a MAN could imagine and you don't want that...trust me.

Nothing worse then a tick on my remote control finger, that's for sure. Dang, must have been a real trip.

DW and I were there about a year ago. I believe we were in spot 124. Hunting Island is a very nice park and we plan on going again. We just sold old home, downsized to smaller home, just about settled into smaller home, just about ready to hit the road again.See you 'round

No pics, but for those who need a handicap space - they have two that are within 20 feet of the edge of the beach. A real find!
