Howdy,

Noticed a leak with our water heater today... Its in our '84 Pathfinder, and I expect its the original one that came with the RV.

I pulled the (mostly soaked) insulation off the tank and didn't see anything particularly alarming. Tried just tightening up the connections a bit and wrapping them in paper towels, to see if I had a weeping connection.

But that's not really why I'm posting... One thing I _hate_ about our current water heater is that you need to exit the RV to fire it up in the morning. The pilot also tends to blow out in windy weather.

I want one that I can fire up from inside the RV, without needing to go outside. I might also be interested in one with an electric heating element, depending on the amp draw (we have a 30A panel right now).

Anyone know what feature I should be looking for to be able to fire the unit from inside the RV, or is that just "normal" and everything has it these days? Anyone know what the amp draw is for an electric 6 or 10 gal water heater? Anyone know where I can get dimensions for common water heaters, so I can check out how they'll fit?

Thanks!

Mark

Electronic spark ignition is just about std equip on water heater today. Flip the switch inside the rig and "click, click, click" you have ignition. If for some reason it does not light, it will try three times and then advise you of situation. Get an electric element also. Only draws about 10 amps. Click on link below

As was posted earlier DSI or direct spark ignition is pretty much the standard in today's new RVs but you can still get the pilot models. Camping World will have WHs with there dimensions and features as will Marks RV, PPL Motorhomes, etc. Just Google for Atwood water heater or Suburban water heater and you will get a lot of hits. You can go from there and make your own decision as to which model you would want. Also, as was mentioned in the other post wiring is fairly simple for having the remote switch capability. The electric heating element is another story but you can make that call after you see the specs of the various water heaters.

Perhaps it just needs a new thermocouple? If tank isn't leaking I would suggest replacing the thermocouple first, very cheap fix if thats the problem.

I have been camping 8+ yrs with a manual light type of HW heater and never had the pilot go out even after heavy/windy storms.
