I use Ready Brake surge brake on my Samurai and it works well. Also very inexpensive.

We use the Ready Brake system and it has performed flawlessly.

Thanks To everybody for the input, One more question on this matter, The Jeep manual say's to turn the key on and disconect the neg, battey cable, why? if the air and radio and everything is off the battery should be alright. The key has to be on to keep the steering wheel free. that I understand, but not the part about the cable. Thanks. Ed.

When you set the key to the acc position there is other electrical circuit that are powered while in that position. Disconecting the battery stops all electrical loads and leaves the steering wheel free to move.

Sounds like a perfect place for a battery disconnect

I think you need power for the aux brakes. I have Brake Buddy for my TOAD and even though I haven't used it lately, it seems you have to plug it in to the aux power outlet to operate. If you disconnect the battery it won't work.

I plug my brake buddy into one of those small portable battery packs/jump starter jobbies. I want to have that along anyhow and then I don't have to worry about running down the toad battery.

With the key on you will be sending power to the ignition.
