OK OK, this sucks. Brand new 6 volt has a hole in the bottom. It was me who did it by accident. One of the plate sections can not hold water.

My question is, is this battery toast or can I somehow plug the hole and fix it?

It's toast...

But a new battery should have a warranty, bring it back

I don't think that warranty will hold, since the wound was self inflected.

Doubt the warranty would cover this, not a defect.

Don't forget to go over anywhere the acid could have leaked with baking soda. No fun a year from now finding out something was rotting away from the acid leak.

Thanks for the tip. There is a bunch of crusty stuff all over some bolts and A Frame were it leaked out.

Suck this battery can not be plugged with something to stop the leak. It was perfectly good, only bought a few months ago.

Oh well, still have another pair to work with for my last trip of the season at the end of the month. I will have to buy another one to pair this other one up for next year.

I think that I'd try some epoxy after cleaning/drying the area around the hole. Afterwards, I'd refill with 1/2 water and 1/2 acid and let it sit for 24 hours to stabilize and then put a charger on it. Worth a try any how and the epoxy is fairly cheap.

I used to use some battery repair stuff. Kind of like epoxy. If the plates are not damaged you should be able to repair the case.Check with a battery shop they may know what Iam talking about.

I had one a few years back that got a hole about the diameter of a 16d nail in the bottom. This was when DieHard was THE battery. I used a hot glue gun, heating the edges of the hole with the tip and then filling the hole with hot glue. Added water and the thing lasted for several years. Not sure how this would work on a bigger hole however.
