Like TEXAS suggested, find a battery dealer, not a parts store retailer. If the plates are not damaged, the case can be repaired and the battery acid can be replaced. Also, do a good job of cleaning up everything the spilled acid touched.

I saw a battery repaired with Tiger Hair a body filler and it held!
If you have a battery builder near you they could repair or recase it also!

One time I repaired a hole in about a week old truck battery.......I used super glue.....Cyanoacrylate..........and fiberglass filler.....or "Micro balloons".............made a paste out of it and spread it with a popsicle stick......I didn't have much money back then to go buy more battery acid, so I used a glass turkey baster and removed a little bit of acid from each of the other good cells and put it in the fixed cell........I then filled each cell up with distilled water and put it back in the truck......
That truck was sold several years later with that same battery!

I'd try a good epoxy to seal the hole if your not in a position where you need the battery right away. Obviously clean it good and sand the area around it to get a good adhesion.

Sorry to read about your misfortune, but in all likelihood, the plates in the damaged cell are toast. Once the electrolyte leaked out, they were exposed to air. The air will oxidized the plates very quickly. Once that's done, the plates are only good for recycling. You can try the suggestions that were put forth in this thread but I doubt if you'll be able to savage the battery.

It can still be good. Same thing happened to me. I droped a brand new battery in the holder and there was a bolt sticking up, went right thrugh the case. I cleaned the bottom and side edges then sanded it a little with course sandpaper. Then I mixed up some body filler on a piece of wood the same size as the base of the battery and spread the filler out on the wood. Take the battery and set it on pushing it a little so it seals good. Don't try to push out all the body filler though. It has been many years since I did that and my guess is that I had about a quarter or third of an inch of filler plus the wood. I never had a problem with the battery since.

I have fixed a battery by applying epoxy the problem is that the liquid is NOT WATER but acid, you need to re-fill the cell with the proper strength of battery acid (Same as what's in the remaining cells) This is not an easy task. for the non-chemist.. In fact I'm not sure I'd want to try it and I majored in science and math (The skills needed)

Thanks for al the input guys. I may just pick up another one due to the fact the other 3 I have are all pretty new anyways
BTW - For those of you who asked - I was out camping and had some pretty hard rain and water got into the battery holder. I thought I would make a small hole in the bottom to drain the water out with my drill. Well, I guess I pushed a bit hard and went right through the battery case. I did not notice until after I got home. The TT had been plugged into shore power for at least 2 weeks cooking the plates of the empty cell and I will assume that the cell is DEAD
Off to the battery shop I go......

JayflightG2, we've all done similar things. The prize however, goes to the State Police tech some years back who used over long screws to attach the trunk mounted radio gear that they used at the time. We sold them a LOT of gas tanks. (This was not the MSP by the way.)
