I was at our RV dealer's today to buy some things (mostly RV TP) and there was a guy there looking at buying a new camper. He was at the point of asking whether he would have any problem towing it, and the dealer asked what he had. "A Tundra," he said. I asked what year (barging into the conversation ) and he said a 2007. The dealer then said he was looking at a PUP. NO PROBLEM!! I assured him several times he would have NO trouble with it, and also told him, when he asked how fast he could go with it, "As fast as your trailer tires are rated for - 65 mph." He still wasn't 100% convinced until I showed him, out in the lot, a trailer the size of ours and said we were pulling it with our Tundra. The light went on. I think he'll probably buy.
Glad I could help our local dealer out - sure want him to stay in business!

Well you just pushed yourself into a conversation that was none of your business, and I suppose you were trying to be helpful. I wonder what your dealer would have said to you if you were interfering in a negative way. I wonder how you could possibly know what the speed rating was on the tires on the PUP the guy was considering buying. This forum is designed for people to offer their unsolicited opinions, but the dealer's showroom certainly is not so designed.
I wont be as critical as wayne, but I do remember going to a customer that was nearby when I was thinking about buying and asking him about the product that I was looking at. As long as you werent to intrusive or rude about it, I think its fine. Problem with some dealers is that they will tell you anything to make the sell, even if they know full well your TV might not handle it. Now even more then ever with sales being so low.
While I have offered an opinion now and again, I doubt I would have gone as far as you did, especially with the speed issue. Just because my tires are rated at 65 mph, I can not exceed 55 mph while towing here in CA and many other states. If there were to be a problem with his towing experience, you may be held liable for damages along with the dealer. There are lawyers out there that will bring anyone into the suit to make more money for themselves.
I have found it is always best to err on the mouth shut option.
You guys are a little rough on the OP. He was just offering his OPINION. The guy didn't have to take it all in as the TRUTH! Do you believe everything you hear or someone tells you, whether solicited or not? I didn't think so. I think you have to lighten up.
Sure, we all have an ethical responsibility to not tell someone stuff that is misleading or incorrect. But, who could really disagree with what the OP said? Does anyone really think the Tundra would have problems pulling the PUP?? Okay, maybe he crashed the converstion, but maybe he was eager to share his experience and thoughts about the vehicle in question. The prospective buyer didn't have to believe him. Come on...lighten up!
