If you're workamping and spending a month or maybe two in one place can you rely on being hired at walmart, home depot or whatever when they know you will be leaving in that short a time. This appeals to us but I don't want to try to get a job without them knowing it's only for that short a time. Is anyone successfully doing this?

That to me is the question that each should have to answer .
I have never used 150 dollars of elec. Maybe 80 max
I have never used over 100 lbs propane A YEAR.
I do not pay over 450 per month, except for vacationing in the destination parks. If you are in Calif or Fla , I can understand it.
So 32 hours a week at 7 bucks is 214 per week that you are furnishing to the owner of the park. Or 900.00 a month. If you feel like working 32 hours a week for 900.00 per month of bennies, thats your choice.
However, I would rather work at wally world saying "Good morning shoppers" for 9-10 an hour plus some bennies and pay rent.
Walmart only pays minimum wages to its greeters. That is not 9-10 dollars an hour. It would be 6-7 dollars and hour.

The minimum wage in California is 8. I don't know about other states.

I certainly dont know where some people live, but every WAL MART I have ever visited pays 9 bucks min for part time. 12-14 for fulltime. Plus a few bennies. You can work at any destination theme park and make moreeeeeeee.
So sick of hearing park owners taking advantage of workampers. So what your well off, what about the next guy that needs to work there? Do you care? Do you know you are lowering the standards for the next couple? Just keep that in mind the next time you want to work cheap. Some where down the line, it will come back to haunt someone.

I am not sure how park owners "take advantage" of any one. Every job I have accepted I knew what the pay was and what work was required BEFORE I accepted the job.
I am not now nor have I ever been a "Union Man" I am worth what I get and I have no idea and could care less how much the next guy makes. I have MY knowledge, skills and abilities and THAT is what I market when applying for a job.

Lou, we are with you...we have never been taken advantage of. There is much more involved than a paycheck. Sure, we are not earning what we did before retiring and hitting the road, but then, we are not doing the same job, either.
We will continue to pick and choose our positions, be reliable, responsible and enjoy our jobs. We are taking nothing away from anyone.......I am sick and tired of people slamming me because I choose to work for less than I could if I was still in my former profession.

In my view Workamping is not a profession, but one to help defray and offset costs for many Rv'ers who might not be financially well off as others may be. There really is NO standards, only those set by the parks themselves. The park in question offers you a job. You either accept or you don't and move on to the next offer. In my opinion we get carried away and start demanding union wages or something there are plenty of non Rv'ers in need of work who would gladly accept a position at said wage. I experienced that in the park I recently stayed in for 3 months. the position was put out to Workampers (maintenance man) and no takers, but a nice young man that needed to feed his family took it and does the best job I've ever seen. So well in fact they gave him a raise!
The unemployment rate is very high right now with many people looking for anything and part-time work just to make ends meat. To me we go in demanding ridiculously high wages we're shooting ourselves in the foot because there are job hungry people out there AND would giver the park just one more site or two to sell.
I agree with Lou and Dianne. To be honest I've never met a Workamper who was being taken advantage of? If so then it's their own fault for being there in the first place. There's no ball and chain on my ankles. I don't like I leave. Many of us aren't necessarily in it for the money. Anyone that knows me knows that lol. Either way nobody will ever decide for me what's right for me , but me. I live by my own standards as we all do. I don't set standards for anyone, just me. I'm quite sure you all set your own as well. If I worried about all the Workampers that followed me I wouldn't have time to enjoy my day!
As Dianne put it... "We will continue to pick and choose our positions, be reliable, responsible and enjoy our jobs. We are taking nothing away from anyone".

Quote: So sick of hearing park owners taking advantage of workampers. Right! And I'll bet that post then means that he wants to also pay more for his RV site so that the help can get more money?
Quote: Do you know you are lowering the standards for the next couple? Now wait a moment! Who is the bad guy here, the owner or the worker?
Someone explain to me why a person would keep returning to this forum just to get angry with those who work for what is offered? If you don't like it, don't participate. Why attack those who do the work? Volunteers must really be a bad bunch since we work for no pay at all!

Well put, Kirk
As far as lowering the standards for the next couple? That is a bunch of *&$%....if anything, the bar we set is higher than most will do. That is why we have more job offers than we can possibly accept
