Will be headed to Lake Erie SP in Sept. from Richmond, VA. Would like to find an overnite stay in this section of I70. Any suggestions?
I looked at State Parks, didn't see anything. Looks like PA Tpke has limited exits so I would like to do something before I get on it.
Thanks for any help.

If your traveling I-81, West Virginia exit 23 has Falling Waters Campsites. A no frills small place, but you can get full hookup, pull thrus. This puts you about 8 miles from I-70

Fort Frederick State Park off of exit 12 on I-70 may work for you. It doesn't have full hookups but for an overnight stop it should work. The campground is on the Potomac river and is rustic. Others may have stayed there recently and give you more information on the campground.

Correction: 1 KOA, 1 Yogi/ Jellystone (Williamsport) and would add that there is a Super Wal-Mart just 5 minutes off of I-70 going north on I-81....if you are so inclined

You did not say whether you were planning on picking up I-70 off of I-270 at Frederick or from I-81 at Hagerstown? There are a couple of State Parks in the Frederic area. As mentioned the greatest concentration of campgrounds is around Hagerstown. There is a KOA and a Yogi Bear park in that area. Also at least one National Park Service campground, but I think it is set up for pretty small RVs. We've stayed at the Snug harbor KOA a couple of times. It is a little high price wise and not all that many full hookup sites. There use to be a couple of campgrounds in the Breezewood area where I-70 meets the Turnpike. there are some phone numbers listed here:

We've also stayed at a KOA off of I-70 after it splits from the Turnpike. I think there may be two.
There are probably more campgrounds on I-81 in Virginia.
Hope this helps!

In addition to the good advice above...
There is a CG called Happy Hills just west of Hancock, MD.
You might also consider taking I-68 over to Morgantown, WV and taking I-79 up to Lake Erie SP. The PA turnpike, IMO, is a terrible road with high tolls.
Off I-68 is Little Orleans CG and further west near Cumberland is Rocky Gap SP.
By the way, Lake Erie SP is one of our favorite places.

Thanks for the replies, I wasn't sure about the Tpke, went to their web site and it looks like it will cost almost $15 in tolls.
I like the 68 to 79 route, will also give us a few more overnite options.
How is 79 around/thru Pittsburg? Our 2nd leg will have us going thru there about 10 am Thursday morning.

On I 79, just west of Pittsburgh (Carnegie) there is construction. AM and PM rush are a mess, but by 10 am you should be OK! Don't know about north of Pgh.
