Yep, have not had a chance to check the TOPO map program, wasn't sure about the grades also looks like 68/79 will add about an hour travel time. I guess it will be one of those trips when I get to that point I will see which way the truck leans.
The SP is about half way between Erie PA and Buffalo, NY on the shores of Lake Erie. Can't wait
Anyone know if the VA EzPass will work on the PA Tpke?

There's some pretty decent grades once you hit the "mountains" of Western MD. The major ones are Sidling Mtn, Polish Mtn, Martins Mtn and Big Savage Mtn. There's also a fairly decent climb leaving LaVale towards Frostburg. And those are just within the first 60 miles of I-68. Even in a car, the 68/79 route will add at least 30-45 minutes on a trip to Pittsburgh. Going through Washington, PA can be a pain sometimes.
And, yes, E-Z Pass is good on the Tpke.

since you mentioned Polish Mountain, that gave me a laugh. years back somebody had placed a reflective minus sign in front of the elevation sign at the top so it read "elevation - ?? ft". gave me a chuckle. that was back when Polish jokes were all the rage.

Yeah, I don't think it's been there for some time now.
There's a short Parkway in Cumberland called the "Canal Parkway" - runs along the C&O Canal. A couple of years ago, some vandals took the "C" of the "Canal". Looked rather humorous at night with the reflective lettering.
There is a shortcut that I take with my RV that goes between I-68 west of Cumberland and the PA TPK at Somerset. Knocks about 25 miles off our trips to Erie. PM me for details.
We've overnighted, after a Friday afternoon start, where 76 crosses 79 north of Pittsburgh. The Cranberry Mall area has a super wally world, Costco, etc, and is well lighted and was quiet.
