Rusty and Rough 2000:
Correct the homeowners liab will or in my case covers me anyplace in the world. Also the Umbrella covers anyplace in the world. Person trips over your cord or hose: Homeowners covers. My dad always said "you are never too busy to watch where you are walking". Doesen't matter: people still trip and try to sue. If your agent does not know and the adjuster does not know I would shop.

We pick up our new 5th wheel in two days. The following site was suggested by an earlier poster, so we asked for a quote from them.
http://www.rv-insurance-coverage.com/
They recommended Progressive for us and gave us the quote. We accepted this bid and faxed our information and mailed our check.
We just wanted to let you know how it turned out for us.

We had our ins with the same co as our vehicles. I was told that the liabilty ins was covered by truck ins unless the fiver is detached. Even if it becomes detached while going down the highway! They did not have gap ins. They did not cover contents. No towing for fiver. I wasnt going to chance everthing i have on insurance i didnt trust to cover us or someone else.
We checked others and chose Progressive. I have delt with them in the past, at my shop, and they seem to be good. We got the coverage we wanted, or felt we needed. And it was quiet a bit less per year.
I didnt want to find out i didnt have the right coverage while putting in a claim.
Ask all questions , no matter how dumb they may sound.
Enjoy the new camper.

Buyer Beware on your insurance. Make sure you know what is covered, several years ago when we we new fiver campers we had a storm that ripped off our awning and we called our Allstate insurance carrier and he said it was ok just enjoy your trip and then when we go home and met with them we go the news that awnings, cabana's and screened in rooms were not covered. Needless to say I was angry. Ending up paying for a new awning out of pocket and oh the humility of driving home with the old awning tied down for a 500 mile trip home. Live and learn but it still rankles me to think about it.

I use Progressive also. Others say they can get a cheaper price elsewhere, but after digging into details, I'm sticking with Progressive.

When shopping for insurance you will find a wide variety of companies and what they offer. Many have offered you good things to look for.
A couple of the biggest things to check out are:
1- Are you full-timing? This may change your needs and approach to buying a policy. Some companies may exclude full-time use.
Do you have a home policy or not?
2- Do they offer some sort of Full Replacement or Agreed Value. These policies minimize or eliminate depreciation for the first few years of the policy life. Usually 3-5 years. This is a good thing. The bad news -- this options is usually very expensive in comparison to the endorsement type coverage.
ACV type policies are far more common and far less expensive. They are like the normal car policy out there. You get the actual cash value for a totaled vehicle.
Example agreed value $50,000 three years into the policy the vehicle is totaled you could receive $50,000
ACV Same example you would receive a lesser amount. Usually the going price for a trailer that is three years old. Like a car, was the trailer top condition, low miles in covered storage or really beat. In three years I would have paid about $1,200 more for the agreed value policy. Totaled trailers/RV’s are really rare. The rig must be totaled for this feature to be of value. You need to choose based on your finces and needs.
3- Review limitations and exclusions of each carefully. The pure RV type policies tend to have more extras in them. Coverage for awnings, etc. Many of your low cost policies cover awnings but not from wind damage. Most policies exclude coverage into Mexico.
4- If full-timing and you don't have a home policy you will probably want a policy that includes your CPL. This is the liability found in your home policies. Trip and fall type stuff. Personal property could be a big concern if you don't have a home policy. Home policies will cover your property in an RV minus deductibles and noremal exclusions and limitations.
I went with my auto carrier who insures my $55,000 rig on an ACV basis. ACV is Actual Cash Value. Not the agreed Value. My policy does exclude travel to Mexico, wind damage to awnings.
BUT the RV type policies were in the neighborhood of $500 to $700 a year. My coverage is an endorsement to the truck policy it is $75.00 a year. In 5-years that is a noticeable savings. For me it was a better way to go.
If you are a weekend camper like me, you may find that the endorsement type coverage is the best option. If you are on the road a lot you may want a full blown RV type policy.
The key is to know what you are buying. Just like you did when you bought your RV
Good Luck -- As always before you sign a policy -- Get all your concerns answered in writing. If they can't show you in writing -- don't buy it.
