Hi,
I just returned from an awesome Alaska trip, BUT I had a blowout on toad on I 90 in Montana. Didn't feel a thing!!!!! Scary. Fellow traveler alerted me, we got off the road safely, GS ERS got us to a shop for a new rim and tire. We lost a little travel time, but it could have been so much worse. So, we want to get the pressure pro tire monitor system; I have a couple of questions for you.
Where do you buy this system? Online, or are there local dealers/distributors around the country?
What is involved in the "installation"? Can a total non tech/mech person do it? Where would you recommend me to get it installed?
I have steel(?) valve extenders on inside duals? Does that matter? Toad has flexible rubber type valve- do I need to get steel?
Any other important points??? I don't need to be hit on the head- I need/want a monitor system- might not be so lucky next time. I had been thinking about it for a while, but didn't want to spend the money, now, my thinking is it will be money well spent. Thanks, Kathy

This may help you make up your mind. I'd prefer a PDF file that can be printed but you go with what they give you.

It isn't all that hard to install but you will need valve extenders and maybe a rotation of the inside valve on the rear if you have duals.

klm, I have the pressure pro system, and I did not have to install valve stem extensions or change anything on the valve stems. All you have to do is screw the small ball shaped transmitters on the end of the valve stems. I also have dual wheels on the rear and all it took was to unscrew the valve caps and screw on all 6 transmitters, and your in business. Good Luck Gary.

Is where I bought the 16 I have. Mike and Pat are really good at walking people through the installation if you have trouble.

I got mine at RVUpgrades.com for exactly the same reason as you. I had a blowout on I-90 in Montana. I guess folks need to watch out when going thru Montana.

Mine is a Doran 360RV. We've had it for about 5000 miles. It is a little more pricey than some others, but you get what you pay for.
Deal with a reliable company. I can think of one that is not.
Most of the TMPS are good products, but I recommend you stay away from the Saf-Tte. I was suckered into that fiasco for about 2 months. Read the entire thread (all 64 pages) on this. I suggest you also read the thread on TMPS (which is closed). And lastly, if you have question, PM Johnny T. I'm of the opinion he's a good and fair source on this topic.
Doran has been around for a long time as has Pressure Pro, and both are proven systems. In fact, Pressure Pro used to be named Doran Pressure Pro. I ordered from Doran on a Monday night for regular delivery and received my TMPS on Thursday morning. It was easy to set up and has worked flawlessly.
None of the systems will predict a sudden blowout. They are designed to detect air leaks. The High/Low pressure alerts you to the parameters you previously set. Having said that, sometimes a failing tire will get unusually hot prior to a blowout. This heat will give you a tire pressure much higher and out of line with the other tires which MAY give you time to pull off the highway.
Good luck in your search.
Oh, google Doran and Pressure Pro. You'll get their web sites. Flip a coin, call one.
