My new TT has a rear bath with a sky light. The problem is I want to install a rear ladder, but one of the roof supports would be in the middle of the sky light. I have about 5" of roof space between the rear edge and the sky light. Does anyone know of a mfgr. of a ladder with an alternate mounting method? I saw a ladder on a Dodge Toy Hauler that would have worked, but I can't find a Mfgr and Dodge is not answering my e-mail. Any suggestions are welcome.

I suspect that the toy hauler you saw was on a Dodge chassis but not actually built by Dodge. Try to get another look and find the manufacturer. Is it possible that the ladder could be installed on the opposite side of the trailer?

Most toy haulers Ive seen has the roof ladders mounted on the front instead of the rear. LISTEN UP!!! You seriously CAN NOT I reapeat CAN NOT install a roof ladder just anywhere you choose. A roof ladder requires "LADDER BLOCKS" which is reinforcements in the wall where the ladder is placed. You could contact the MFG and ask them if ladder blocks was used in your particular unit. IF NOT---YOU CAN NOT HAVE A LADDER. If so, the MFG can send you a blueprint of your unit showing the location of the ladder blocks, then you could install a ladder IN THAT LOCATION ONLY. ***A standard RV wall (without ladder reinforcing) is not strong enough to hold the weight of a human climbing on them.

Now then. WELCOME TO THE FORUMS and I wish you many happy trips. Thanks TIM

I should have been a bit more specific. I do have the blue print of the rear wall of my unit. The ladder supports are on the same side as the sky light. As for the Dodge, it's made by R-Vision. I was given the e-mail address by a friend but I'm not sure it was correct. I can't find anything on their web sites such as a "contact us". It only refers you to dealers. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

r-vision does not have a great web site and they are not likely to be helpful to you anyway. I would try elsewhere. Good luck.

That's a great idea. There's only one problem...I've been looking for "elsewhere" for months. I've been on the web for hours on end, checked with all the local dealers and shops. I thought some of you good people on this forum may an idea you could share. I actualy thought about off setting one of the roof supports. But I don't think I would like the way it would look.

Your best bet may be to get a shop that does aluminum welding to cut the support that would interfere with the skylight, rotate it, and weld it into a new position that places it on the roof.

A large percentage of ladders installed on newer rigs are made by Atwood. Recently I installed a ladder on my travel trailer after calling Jayco for the part number. I went to the dealer and supplied them with the part number and they produced an Atwood ladder with a different part number. Since then I have noticed Atwood ladders on numerous brands of RVs.
Have you considered installing the ladder without the one roof mount installed? I started to only install one on mine simply because I did not want any extra holes in my roof. You would need to verify that you would feel safe with your transition on and off of the roof of course.
I believe that the reinforced walls for a ladder leave something to be desired. Jayco uses a 5/8” piece of plywood stapled to the 2 x 2” wall stud. I’m sure most of the manufacturers are probably the same. I took off my back wall and installed 2x4”s as blockers and discarded the 5/8” pieces of plywood. With this in mind, I feel that the ladder should only be used for access to the roof and not for hauling bikes or other items during transport. Good luck in getting your ladder installed.
