Hey Steve, I can understand that but I've never in at least 20 years of boondocking with a motorhome and even now with the tc, paid over 5 bucks to dump. Last week in Utah it was 5 to dump and 5 to fill up with fresh water and that was a brand new charge because of all the 5'vers with 150gal tanks. At least that was the reason given. And this campground was 7 miles from the highway so I figured it had to be a septic system. Either that or it drained into the lake just downhill.
I don't know man, I just don't see myself walking into McDonalds with my waste tank...or any public bathroom. My luck I'd stumble and fall and the lid would poop off. I mean pop off.

You said it right when you said "they don't want you to dump if you're not camping" so they charge an amount that discourages you from doing so. Seems like a perfectly logical way of pricing to me and it did exactly what they wanted it to do, send you somewhere else to dump. You did what I would have done when you heard the price but there is no reason they should HAVE to be fair. It's only a rip off if you paid it.

I'll junp on this one too, well said Skip.

There an RV park less than 4 miles from my house. They charge $20 to dump (same as staying overnight in the park). We stayed at the Georgia Mountian Fairgrounds last weekend and there is a sign right next to the dump station which states "Non-Camping Dump Fee $2". Which I feel is more than fair. All the rest areas in Georgia have free dump stations. Flying J has free dump stations. It makes good business sense. I go out of my way to buy gas from Flying J just because of it. $20 is a rip-off. I told the RV park near my house "Bye, bye" and I'll never camp there nor would I ever recommend anyone else to do the same. Dave.

Charging a small camper with an 8-gallon black water tank the same as a big Class A or 5th Wheel with a 200 gallon tank is a pure rip off. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist figure out a fair dumping charge for small and big RV’s. The cost to the campground to dispose of sewage and gray water is pennies per gallon. Charging an RV owner $3/gallon is a rip off. In Alabama, our interstate rest areas have sewage dumps and they are all free.

I don't see it as a rip off.
They arrived at a price at which they're willing to let you use their facility. If you don't feel it's a fair price, then you go elsewhere. Pretty simple economics.

Does $20 seem like a lot? Yes. Too much? That depends on what your options are. This isn't significantly different than any of the other purchases we make. I would like to be paying a lot less for fuel but everywhere I go the prices seem to be very similar. If I'm in the middle of nowhere and need fuel, I just pay whatever is being charged.
You didn't say exactly where you are but the Provincial Parks usually have free dump stations. Campbells Cove Provincial Park is on Route 16 about 5 km East of Elmira.

Competition will lower it...Check out rvdumps.com...But for no more than that I would think U could easily catch it in something and dump it in the toilet-just have to be careful. U might have to dump it in UR friends toilet. Businesses might frown on U bringing it in. UR friend might but being he is a friend he'd understand UR needs.

We have been told no.... flat no, no exceptions. A private campground in Cresent city , Oregon asked $10 and offered showers to go with it... their site rent was $20/night. We prefered the Casino.
They made you a price... you have choice.
Their cost to clean up your mess is the same as any other rigs. If your butt wipes plug up their system it cost the same to hire a plumber.
My suggestion:
Pay the price
or find an alternative
or get straws for everyone that contributed waste to your holding tank.
(I have a 12 volt macerator pump and the neighbors water hose... I just pump to the nearest clean out or commode.)
