What kind or level of disability is needed to qualify for a discount at a campground in your neck of the woods?
Private or public?
I only ask this question wondering if there is a distinction between military disabilities and the roofer who fell and hurt his back, rendering himself unable to perform general labor tasks.
Since I am the OP of this post I would encourage any and all comments, questions, or opinions.
To receive a disability pass for the California Parks system, all we needed to do was to submit a form signed by our doctor but we also included a copy of our disability placard from our wheelchair van as well.
We qualified due to our daughter's disability. I forgot if the form asks if the disability is permanent, which our daughter's is.
We only use it when she goes camping with us in the TT. I don't use it when I go by myself in the PuP.

Steve, thanks for your reply. It sounds like you're a very ethical user, not an abuser. I appreciate that.
We have a 4 1/2 year old grand-daughter who lives with Angelman Syndrome is severely disabled. I imagine at some point she will go camping in the TT with us so it's good to know about some opportunities.

I hope your family is doing well.
Thanks, Tommy. We have had a rough year with our daughter having a trach implanted during a 10-week hospital stay earlier in the year.
We are home and doing better.
Let me know if I can offer any advice on camping with a disabled child. We have been doing it for almost 19 years.
America the Beautiful Pass - Free.
National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass
This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent
residents with permanent disabilities. Documentation is
required to obtain the pass. Acceptable documentation
includes: statement by a licensed physician; document
issued by a Federal agency such as the Veteran's
Administration, Social Security Disability Income or
Supplemental Security Income; or document issued by a
State agency such as a vocational rehabilitation agency.
The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal
recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard
Amenity. The pass admits the pass holder and passengers
in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and
pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16
admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the park. The Access Pass
provides a 50 percent discount on some Expanded Amenity Fees charged for facilities and
services such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services. In
some cases where Expanded Amenity Fees are charged, only the pass holder will be given the
50 percent price reduction. The pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce
special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires,

But something that folks should know about those "Federally issued Passes"...
They are good at "Most" but not all Federal parks and Recreation areas.
And those Federal passes are not necessarily accepted at many "State", "County", "City" or privately owned campgrounds and recreation areas.
Because each state, county, city and private park/campground are different..
it would be wise for folks to research their destination site before going... that way they won't get an unpleasant surprise upon arrival.
Best Wishes,

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved. The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

John,
You are correct. These passes are good at national parks, COE areas and US forestry areas and such. I have used mine at places like Daniel Boone Forest campgrounds, Land Between the Lakes and COE campgrounds in KY. The discount is on federally run services. They typically give the discount on the site but not the water or electric although they discounted everything at the COE camp I went to. I also used it on a non-camping vacation at the Grand Canyon. My experience is that no other parks accept them. I also have a Golden Buckeye card good at all OH state parks for 50% off weekdays and 10% off weekends. It is also accepted at many restaurants in OH for a discount.
