My TV is a 2004 F250 Super Duty with a 5.4/3.73 combo. I pull a 2005 Grand Surveyor 240BH 5th wheel. My mileage when towing is 9 - 10 mpg. This combo works but as mentioned, when traveling in the mountains, it would be nice to have more power.

Well my goodness, I never knew this was gonna be such an issue! Ha! But thanks everyone for all the responses. We pondered over our purchase of a new truck and personally my husband and I DID NOT purchase it for the gas milage. We knew going in that it wouldnt get but 7-8 mpg. We are great with our decision and love the truck and it was the right pick for us. I disagree with that person that said that I would be disappointed and I WILL NOT be like his friend and give up RVing. You do with what you got and that was a cop out to me. Any how...to the person that asked what we were looking for...this will not be our final fifth wheel. It will be our first. And we are looking for something that will fit us...AND the truck. We want at least one slide out..but would love two. We do not have kids that travel with us now so dont want to do the bunkhouse thing. And have seen several fifth wheel models that would fit the bill. I was simply curious by asking those that owned a truck like ours what they towed. We are not objecting to a TT either, but like the head room in a FW. Thanks anyway to those that gave me responses to this question. Just didnt mean to open a can of worms.

we towed the cougar 281 efs for 3 years all over with our f250 5.4, I also towed a constuction enclosed trailer 3 days a week with it. We towed a saturn to cali from mass, and it now has 200k on it with the original motor, tranny, and all steering components. We only once wished we had more motor, but pre-planning and using 4x4 low with hubs unlocked for the 2 mile curvy grade from He** worked just fine. We have 35 in tires and used to average 11mpg and I towed way tooooo fast(young and dumb) now we have a bigger truck and bigger trailer, but still use the truck everyday for my constuction business, You got a good truck, just use it for what is was meant for and as you can see it will serve you well!

One more thing, dont be affraid to rev it, it builds good power up high, we used to pull it into 2nd and run grades between 3500rpm and 4250 rpm, and you can see it has lasted just fine!

I was pulling a 30 foot dutchman super slide 8900 lbs. with my chevy 6.0 got poor mileage but it pulled it fine>I would look for any 5er you like and study the weight, then ajust your search from there. You should be able to tow any 30 foot or so you like .THAT is the main concern you can get all the favorite brands people like but if YOU don't like them we are all wasteing you time.it also depends on your budget.
Saying all that IMHO I would stay under 9000 lb.

Maybe I didnt make myself clear. I just wanted to know what kind of 5th wheel all you rv'ers tow if you have this kind of truck. Its not diesal. It's gas. Agains its a Ford F-250 crew cab. It has a 9500lb tow. All I wanted to know if what brand, the length, how many slides, etc. Sorry about being so unclear.

Cindy, it's not that you didn't make yourself clear, it's that apparently some folks can't read.

Having a 'smaller' engine isn't as bad as some make it out to be. You might want to look at the lighter trailers if you plan on much mountain travel. I found that our 6000lb fiver is OK on grades, but, probably would not want heavier. Height of the trailer is low enough that flat speed is good. Our mileage on the flats at 70mph is just over 10mpg.

Ours does have a living room slide and we really like it. The only thing I'd look for different is a full length bed. On these shorter trailers that's one area where the mfg's go cheap.

Since you have more payload you'll have more options in your search than we did. 1/2T limits pin weight. And, I'd not consider a TT.

Good luck in your search.

We have a 03 f-250 with a 5.4 and tow a Flagstaff 8524 RLS fiver, it has one slide and is 27 ft total length. The truck does great in my opinion, it does not have the power of the desiel and does not have all of the high maintenance cost either. We are happy with our choice and hope you are too.
