We are looking to trade our 2000 Newmar DS DP in for a Newmar 3950 Allstar Family edition with the rear bunks. There arent any around her to drive (or buy for that matter) and i hate to drive clear accross the country only to find i dont like it. My main question is, is it noisy being right there in the kitchen?

I don't have any first-hand information, but I researched and found this site:
http://blog.focht.net/?page_id=70
You should be able to contact a happy owner of one there.
I believe a mid-engine DP is a great idea, and wish more manufacturers would use it for other than toy haulers.
I think the engine is still far enough removed from the front to be fairly quiet.

Strictly speaking, wouldn't a mid-engine coach be a 'puller'?

My old Revcon was a puller, but it was FWD.
Unless you are driving in reverse, the rear wheels are driven and they are pushing everything ahead of them.

Absolutely no noise or heat from the engine(even with the access hatch in the hallway) with the Newmar AllStar Mid-Engine. However one of major reasons we did not buy the Travel Supreme ME was the engine noise-they did not do as good a job of insulation.

Just out of curiosity, is a mid-engine application still considered a "pusher"?

If it drives by the rear wheels it is a pusher, GMC, Revcon, & etc. are pullers in the true since of the word. JMO.

Actually according to the "RV Terminology" : Diesel Pusher-is the term for a rear engine diesel motorhome.
Diesel Puller-is the term for a front engine diesel motorhome.
ME(Mid Engine)-is the term for a mid engine motorhome. Apparantly the terms have nothing to with front or rear wheel drive!

IMHO and to my pea brain if the engine is in front of the rear axle then it is a puller just like a Ford or Workhorse of FRED. If the engine is behind the rear axle it is a pusher even a UFO with a Chevy is a pusher.
IMHO if it is a front wheel drive then no matter where the engine is located then it is a puller.
