Have any of you pulled up the carpet throughout a fifth wheel with slides and replaced it with either vinyl planks (look like wood) or pergo? Our Mobile Scout has what appears to be vinyl plank flooring in the kitchen area and I love it. The carpet is now old and we want to replace it with the same vinyl plank flooring through out. We are concerned about what happens when the slides move in and out, we do not want the floors to be scratched the first time we move them in or out. Any suggestions or help?

My kitchen slide on my Cedar Creek has the Armstrong wood/made to look, flooring and there are no scratches except when soom one let the TV remote out and the batteries got cought under the slide.I too would rather of had this as my complete flooring, with 2 dogs and just normal campground dirt being bought in on the bottom of our shoes the tan carpet shows its age fast.Pergo flooring and a few area rugs(non slip bottoms) would be nice and clean up would be easy.

We did it... We replaced all carpet with vinyl planks and are very happy with the results. We used a good adhesive throughout and did not rely on the self-stick planks. For protection from the slide rollers we cut out some heavy aluminum plates from old street signs (don't tell) for the rollers to ride on when retracting. When we extend the slide-out we store the plates until retracting again. When the slide is extended the rollers are sitting on a small plate that is attached to the floor with screws. This enables them to be at the same height as the temporary plates.

Thanks for all the input! Ralexis my husband is retired Air Force also. Where did you find the vinyl planks and did you find it very expensive to do it. Are your slides flush mount, or do they sit above the floor? Ours sit above the main floor and I realized after I sent the original that the one slide slides over the vinyl floor in the kitchen already.
There was a similar question in a post a few days ago. There were some really good pointers and pictures. Look for the post. One suggestion was something sold at Home Depot (don't remember the name now). I checked at the local Home Depot and it looks like some pretty good stuff. Again check the other post about a week or two back.
I removed the carpet from my new trailer and replaced it with sheet vinyl. That was 4 yrs ago and it has never been scratched by the slide-out. But the thicker the new flooring, the greater the possibility. My sheet vinyl is only 1/8 inch thick. The stuff I used is from Tarkett and is designed to lay flat and not stretch or distort without needing any adhesive. If necessary, you can do multiple trial fits to get the cuts just right. The only thing holding this flooring in place are 2 floor registers and a 1/8 inch bead of silicone caulk around the perimeter. There are no gaps or cracks to seperate or collect dust, etc and no bulky baseboard trim. The slide-out has never disturbed this flooring. I also have a loose piece on the bedroom step that has worked fine. The link in my signature contains a few pics.
