It's early in the morning now but I think the moderator and a couple of others did miss Agrnbrt's point completly. As stated in these last few post help was offered but appears the owner/driver knew more than those who offered. Also he apparently he did take dealers advice on size of truck just as the dealer this past week that was trying to get me to trade my Aspin in on a 33 Ft. 5th. wheel that was too much trailer for my F250.
Every new sports writer will spend at least one day at a boat ramp and get enough humorous stories to fill a book and the same can be said on camper writers by following folks around and watching them park.
Several years ago I wrote Chevrolet asking them to reprogram the head lights so you can turn them off with the engine running but they refused stating it was set this way for safety reasons. I countered with by inviteing them to come with me and try to back down a crowded boat ramp with everyones headlights blinding me and see how safe that is. I asked,if nothing else to give us the option of dousing them if the tow mode was selected as for that reason and also for respct for campers when parking a trailer at night to not disturb other campers. Most of us that pull trailers and smart enough to turn on head lights when it's dark.

S'funny, I couldv'e sworn I have a manual over-ride position on the headlight switch that turns my headlights off.
DRLs no, but they are only the little 21w supplementary lights in my grille.

And I have looked at most of them out there. 18000lbs was the GVWR of that trailer as 90% of the big toy haulers are. Depending on the year of the truck he probably had enough for it. Pin weight was probably heavy, but some airbags could handle that.

Aw c'mon, OP said it was a SRW F350. Loaded, that trailer is marginal for a DRW.
Jumping to conclusions again, and it's the dealers fault. Lets see, the guy wouldn't take anyones advice about the size of the site. Wife knew they were ok truck wise. Dealer probably told him during the walk through about greasing the hitch or using a lube plate. The guy probably didn't listen or thought the dealer was just trying to sell him more stuff. The last three trailers I bought I had great dealers and salespeople. Perhaps I'm the only lucky one. I'll bet if you asked the dealer, this guy is probably the 10% that the dealer wishes would never come back.
First off let me thank the following: Jummy3, Pickle 2, SrChief78 & Kaydejay. You got it. The rest of you seem to get what I am saying. Pure and simple. There was the PERFECT example of a man with too much money who listened to his dealer and his EGO (I got the biggest so I am the best) instead of common sense. He knew it all when it came to people trying to talk with him. I gave 2 snipits of the conversations.
Nothing anyone was trying to tell him was going to help. He simply knew it all.
Madmav, there was a GVWR and that was 21,000. It also had a UVW of 18,000. Last I remember that ment dry weight bud. I wish I took notice of the pin and axle numbers, but someone else did and was also shocked when looking at them and then to the truck and hitch.
Tearza, since you brought up my first rig and mistakes I made. Well unlike this chap. I made NONE. How and why? I researched my truck, the type of camper I was looking into buying and DID not listen to the dealer or my ego. I was new and knew I was new. I started with a pop up and had NO problems and NEVER PUT ANYONE IN DANGER on the road when I towed it.

The OP said "So I walked over to the driver and asked him if he realized he was a little short on truck and hitch for that much rig? "Oh no, we have plenty of truck here" his wife chimed in, before he could say something....With that we all shook our heads and had a chuckle as we went to continue our walks" Now just what else did you think he should do? I would have done exactly the same thing. Someone who will spend that much money and not do some simple research deserves no further help. As the OP said, I hope he doesn't hurt someone down the road because he was a complete moron and you can't fix stupid!

There was a thread complaining about people who walk through campsites, I think some people should stay in theirs. If I got a new trailer and was trying to figure out how to maneuver it into a campsite, the last thing I would want is for some nosey camper to come and tell me your not going to fit and then proceed to tell me what's wrong with my setup before I even get settled (this is not help). Then to add insult, I get to watch him rally with others to laugh and be entertained.
If he was having problems, I would have asked I could help guide him in and let him discover if he can fit or not. Who knows, He may have said, Wow I think I screwed up on this setup! Or, this guy broke down and I'm trying to help him with his trailer. Or, my truck is bad a$$, I could have got that bigger trailer! Who Knows?
