I got the impression from reading the post, that help was offered, but refused. Someone went over to say that the spot was too small and someone went over to discuss the weight and were told we know what we are doing. You can not make someone take advice/help.
I agree completely. It appears help and friendly advice was offered but they "knew it all". When people are not willing to listen to a bit of friendly advice, it usually takes a very big scare or a very expensive bill to get their attention. In my opinion when advice is offered to a fool and they reject it, the only option is to walk away laughing. On their heads be it.

The good thing, and right thing to do would have been to give him info on how to log on to RV.Net in order to get educated.

I don't think I would do that to my worst enemy after seeing some of these quotes.Good advice is what the guy needs, but getting beat up by some here would not be pleasant.

"Friendly advice"? Nuts! that was an "in-your-face" with an bunch of onlookers for an audience! There's a way of approaching folks to impart well intentioned advice and doing it in that manner is how NOT to do it. When confronted out of the blue while you're still attempting to get set up, how many of you would accept that type of emmisary arriving on your doorstep without even a howyadoin? You guys made it quite obvious to those folks from the get-go that you were "negative" about their choice of rig as they were attempting to park it, then you decide to impart this little nugget "I suppose you realize you're under-spec on both your truck and your hitch" good grief!
It is my belief you know the proper way to impart well intentioned advice to the novice but in this instant the "Herd Mentality" and it's putting on a show for an audience took over. Wifey probably restrained herself admirably, cause if you had stuck your face into my wife's with your little theatrical display for the onlookers, you'da come away without the smirk on your face!

Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

You probably forgot that one time maybe a long time ago you were once an idiot with more money then brains too-that's where most of us started--heck even myself although I know that is hard to believe!---Now if you went over to help lend a guiding hand and he told you to mind your own business then yes he was an idiot too, but he will soon figure it out and finally ask someone somewhere for help.

I would have asked you if you wanted to buy me a new truck, and if not, to keep your nose up in the air and keep on walking.

I have had people ask me how my truck tows, and I tell them that it handles the trailer great, but the next truck I buy will have more HP, but only when this truck gets too old/unreliable/I finally find a grade that my truck can't conquer /or I otherwise can talk myself into going into DEBT.

I enjoy taking to people that ask me this, as they seem genuinely interested.

If someone just came up to me and told me that "my truck was too undertrucked for my trailer", I would not even bother to show them the specs that say that my truck and trailer are within weight limits, but I would tell them to stuff their big old head in the big old place on their body where the sun has never shined.

Sounds like that's where they already had their heads to me.

Wow!! Tough Crowd Here!!I think I would have waited until he settled in at least before I gave advice,IF I gave advice. What the OP says may be true, but there sure is a lot of assuming going on here.Once everything is set and people are chilling a little, maybe then its time for some friendly guidance.Human nature what it is,maybe then well meaning advice would have been taken to heart.
