Ok. I have become officially confused on the weights of the K-Z Sportsman Sportster 2910.
Looking at three different areas, I find three different weights. The one that befuddles me the most, is the weight listed on the inside of the cabinate door of a trailer at a local dealers lot.
The trailer was manufactured on February 2008 which was before the publication of the 2008 brochure specs. It has 16" rims on eight lug axles, so I find it hard to believe that 12,000 lbs GVWR is correct.
My guess is that the 09 web specs are correct, but then I question why it took so long for K-Z to figure out the specs on the trailer when they are the ones that manufactured it .
Did they re-design the trailer between 08 and 09?
We are thinking on buying the trailer at the dealers lot, but then I don't want to buy a problem if it can only carry our quads.
Why not look under the trailer and see if it has 6 or 7,000 lbs axles? You could also call KZ and give them the serial number and they will give you the information.
i ran into this same problem when we were shopping trailers & as it turned out, the actual weight of the trailer when i went to the scales was different than any of the published weights.
I'm towing a KZ 33P toy hauler with a 2008 GMC D/A. I carry a full dress harley that weighs around 900#. All my weights are within limits although i'm pretty much at my GVWR rating of 9200#. When i weighed the trailer i had it loaded for camping with the harley. In the truck, i had me & the wife, a full tank of fuel & the mutt. I don't remember all the #'s but like i said, i was at the GVWR of 9200#, I was under the GRAWR by around 1000# (and even more on the front axle) and my combined weight was under 20000# which is more than 2000# under my rating for this.
I tried doing my homework with the #'s as much as i could before getting the trailer & even weighed my truck by itself to see how much pin weight i could take (came out to be around 2200#), but unless you can find someone that has weighed the trailer you're looking at, it's very hard to tell what the actual weights will be.
Also, the brochure weights are without any options so i wouldn't go by them. The weight that should be the closest is the one posted inside the trailer on a kitchen cabinet door, but even that was wrong in my case
it probably is the '08 year made specs as NHTSA has just issued a rules change for RV manufactor regarding GVWR/axle weights and UVW numbers dated 6/2/'08. See new RV regs web. Scroll down about halfway to S10 paragraph for the new RV rules changes.
I would think KZ would use the old rules regarding their axles. Also some manufactors were already compliant anyway. As dieselgem says the tags on the axles may have your answer.

If it's GVWR you are looking for that, along with the axle ratings, is on the external VIN/Certification/Tire pressure label on the outside of the trailer.

Yes, there should be a tag on the axle. Also, KZ weighs the units for over a year now when they leave the factory. When, I scaled mine after picking it up the numbers were almost idential. You may have a typo error. Why not give the factory a call. They make a nice unit and are good company.
