To save money in retirement I think we will home base out of TX. We will most likely winter there each year. We like the El Paso area.
But we will travel quite a bit and will have to have some mail forwarded. We have cut down but some just has to be forwarded so that we can respond in a timely manner.
What service are available in the El Paso area?
Our home is sold here in AZ and we will close before 1 Oct and head for TX

El paso county is one of the few in Texas that require emissions testing.

If that makes a difference to you, you might want to consider an alternate home base, even if you winter in the El Paso area.

Of course, Escapees is the premier mail forwarder for RVers in Livingston, Texas.

Unless you're military and use the RV park on Ft Bliss there really aren't any nice parks there to spend all winter. It also gets quite cold there (I was raised in El Paso).

We are fulltimers and use Escapees. They aren't cheap but we have had absolutely no problems with our mail and we have LOTS of meds mailed to us each month. I do all our stuff with them via email. If I email them on Monday afternoon the mail leaves Wednesday and I have it by Friday and sometimes by Thursday.

I also like that they sort the junk out so we aren't paying for that to forwarded. They also will open and read something to you if need be and I have had them call us about meds when I have waited to long in their eyes to send for mail.

We have found them to be very customer service oriented.

Just because you want to winter in El Paso, you do not necessarily have to use El Paso as your mail forwarding address nor be a "resident" there. You can become a resident of any place you like and have your mail forwarded to any place you are. You should check out the advantages and disadvantages of residency in multiple places before you decide. We are residents of South Dakota, but rarely spend time there. We winter in Arizona and travel in the summer. SD has no income tax, low vehicle insurance and registration costs with no emission testing, relatively low sales tax, and a great forwarder. Obviously someone has never been in El Paso trapped because there is ice/snow on I-10 and nothing is moving. Yes, it does snow there. And really, there are a lot of NICE places in Texas and I wouldn't list El Paso as one of them. Take a look at Escapees, I think it will fill your bill and you never have to stop there unless you want to - - but if you do, I think you will really enjoy it.

I've lived in El Paso almost 20 years and I could have count on one hand the number of times that snow or ice have been any kind of issue.

There may be other reasons that someone might not want to live or stay in El Paso; but, the weather, snow and ice would certainly not be among those reasons!

You don't have to claim residency in the state you have your mail forwarded to. I'm still not sure which state to pick for my domicle.

I just picked up a form from the post office for forwarding and there is a box to check for 'temporary' move for people who vacation for the winter. It allows your mail to be forwarded for 6 months. If you stay longer you just fill out another one for 6 months.

Then just pick one of the forwarding places and your all set.

This is what I am going to do with my mail until I figure out just what the hey I'm going to do!
