We travel from Northern Ohio to Houston Texas about 4 times a year. We normally travel in our Lance truck camper, but have hauled the Raptor a few times as a mobile hotel room. (Traveling with grandkids)
I looking for info on what 5er is most suited for extended travel.
Not looking for a monster, just comfortable and made for the road. Thanks

We looked and looked and looked before we bought our 5ver. I had a lot of people tell me the one "they had" was the best..
We bought a Sunnybrooke with one slide. We love it. It's built tough, pulls easily, and is very comfortable. I have been pulling it for about a year now.... no complaints... would do it again.
But I would guess the old adage.... "one man's trash is another man's treasure" is true with 5vers also.

Arctic Fox and Sunnybrook are both good sturdy 5ers and have them in the 28 to 32' size.

Thanks for the info.. I'm not trying to flame any brands. I love our Keystone Raptor for what it was designed for. I'm just beating it to death out on the roads. I'm just looking for something that's made for the road.

I just picked up a Bristol Bay by Sunnybrook after some searching and getting recommendations on this and other boards. It's not megabucks but it is definitely sturdier (and better insulated) than about anything else I walked in at it's price point around here. You being from Ohio have your pick being so close to Indiana!

Since I never buy a new RV I would start looking for a clean used unit. In todays market I would look at any lightly used fiver that is available near you. If the floor plan and features fit you, do your research here to find out if the units are well thought of.
I would look at the Excel line if you are looking for a top quality fiver in a shorter size. They really optimize the storage space and ensure access to the kitchen & toilet with the slides closed.

I'll be interested in what you find. We also use ours as a mobile hotel room. Not sure how long it will last, especially since it has to survive I40 through Ok City twice a year
Does anyone tow theirs over dirt roads on a regular basis?

It's a tough call on needs versus wants. You want a sturdy frame and suspension with quality axles, brakes and tires but perhaps finding a smaller bunk house floorplan is what you need and can you get both? I believe the time has never been better for shoppers to find the rig they want/need is they just take their time and do the "due diligence" stuff first.
For travel on the interstates of today with the heavy trucks beating them into garbage you really need to focus on the "build" of the coach and worry about the interior amenities as the second priority. Finding a trailer with most of your needs shouldn't be difficult either new or used.
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

Our 2005 Crossroads Cruiser has, since April of 2005, over 70,000 miles (over 420 nights) and no issues so far. I would guess that would be called 'over-the-road type use. Absolutely satisfied with the comfort and performance.

I really wanted to see the Excel RT... I guess there isn't one around Ohio sitting on a lot.. There is one down in La Feria, TX . Maybe on our next trip down I'll run over and take a look.
