We are debating between a toyhauler with a 100+ gal water tank and a C class with just a 40 gal tank. We really like the C class, but we like to dry camp and 40 gal is pushing it for a family of 4. How hard is it to add an additional water tank to a C class? We are looking at the Jayco Greyhawk 31SS.
Thanks

First of all, can the "C" carry another 480#? (that's 60 gallons at 8#/gallon).
Second, is there a place to put a tank? (inside, under the chassis, on the roof)
Then you will need to plumb in another water pump and controls.
Can it be done? - sure but it might be a lot more work than you first thought.

Rather than remodel a thought out design why don't you carry a rubber bladder that you can refill your present system with. Water sources are usually not too far from most dry camps.

it all depends on the way its made on our rv class A it would be easy to add one under the bed on our older Class C there no room to put one.

I would think the biggest issue would be the added weight. Depending on the size, model, etc., you will be very close to your max. before adding a tank. With the added tank full of water, you may not have any capacity left to carry other things in the MH.

We carry 2x6 gallon tanks. 50 gallons of water for a couple of days is not bad. If you add another 60 gallons of water you need to keep in mind that you need that much more room in the black and gray tanks.

We only have 30 gals FW in our C. It is a problem.
We carry extra containers that we can fill before reaching the boondocking spot and almost double our FW capacity. Doing it this way we don't have to drive far with the added weight. But containers get in the way. They have to be dumped into the FW tank when needed adding work.
The 30 gal. grey water tank gets full quickly, however, and this is usually time to move and dump, flush and fill. By then we find that we've used about 40-45 gallons of FW as not all goes in the GW tank. I would recommend to any manufacturer that they could install a larger FW tank than the GW tank for these reasons.
I thought about adding another FW tank as we also have the room but didn't give it serious thought.

I carry 10 gals of fresh water on the motorcycle trailer. If my grey tank gets full, I put the cap on the dump line and open the grey tank first, then the black tank second. I close the black tank before its full and then the grey valve second. This allows me to use the mostly unused black tank capacity to store my extra grey water.
This allows me to dry camp (Ocotillo Wells, Lucern Valley, Slash X) for up to 4 or 5 days on 35 gals of MH water plus my extra 10 gals. Thats a family of 4 taking showers every day, brushing teeth, cooking......... washing dishes is the biggest water waster once I got the family to cut the showers down. Its amazing on how little water you can live on daily when you have to.

I added a 40 gallon tank between the frame rails in the back with a pump that I can use for powerwashing or filling my coach's fresh water tank. No problem.
