It will cost you more to convert than you will ever save on gas!!!

Given that you have a 14" driveshaft now I think you can forget any changes. Both the GV and the EOAD will be too long to work. Drive it as is or trade it.

The splitter would be far cheaper and easier to install, plus it would give more ratios, but it probably wouldn't work in a pusher with a short drive shaft.

IMHO, the cost of converting to the newer transmission would take forever to pay off and I doubt it would make much of a difference in fuel economy because the OD ratio may be too tall to be used very much.

Another alternative would be to replace the rear axle with a 2-speed axle. IMO, a more elegant solution but it could be pricey too.

Hi Denny, According to this Web Site, an E4OD is 4" longer than a C6. That would leave you with a really short drive shaft. If you insist on pursuing the change, you'll need an aftermarket electronic controller. Baumann Engineering has a very good controller for the E4OD.

Why do you think an OD will improve mileage? I did see this set up in a MH about 10 years ago. The owner had moved to a DP and stated he liked it but due to cooling issues I think he had replaced the radiator but he towed a huge trailer doing trade show events for motorcycles.

A two speed axle is also a non starter because it will also require a shorter driveshaft. You're right back to drive it as is or trade. Unless you've got room in the rear of that thing to move the engine back 4" to accommodate the OD transmission. Which would still mess with weight distribution somewhat. But if your coach is the 35' that the model number indicates it would still be much better balanced than one with an inline diesel in the rear so moving the engine might work. Still highly unlikely to be worth the cost or effort.

The GV spitter is more than 14" long if I remember correctly.
