I met her in church.
I had known her parents from leading worship for the seniors ministry (I was 26 years old) and they wanted me to meet their daughter who was then in Hawaii with a missionary group called YWAM.
The church had sponsered her to go over to Hi and when she returned, she gave a presentation on a Sunday morning. She was stunning! I didn't think that she was the girl I was to meet since she is Korean and her parents were not (adopted).
When she came out into the foyer after the service, she was with her boy-friend (he thought he was) but I walked right up to her and laid-out my "line". I told her I was very interested in talking with her about her missionary experience. I left church that morning and told my friend that without a doubt, I knew that girl was to be my wife some day.

She was now working in the church office and I went to visit her and asked her out. We dated for a year and had planned to marry the following year but my sister had gained a spot that year on the 1984 Olympic team and since the 84' Games were in Los Angeles (we were in Northern California) and many of my relatives would be here for the Games, we planned the wedding for a few days after the Olympics closed.
The ceremony was lake-side at the church camp where I was working.
1984 was a bitter-sweet year. My sister won a Bronze medal at the Games, I was married the following week but my father had passed away a few months before the Olympics. I still have his diving tickets in my collection of stuff. He missed out on a wonderful summer.

Today is our 24-year anniversary.

I was in the third grade and he was in the fifth. Our community was having a festival and we both were in costumes. He had a big thick, black, fake mustache and was dressed as a cop. The local newspaper wanted to take our pictures with me feeling the muscle in his arm I was almost freaked out by the prospect. But, I did it and our pictures appeared in the newspaper.

Fast forward 8 years.. . we started dating when I was 16 . We dated six years and as soon as I finished college, we got married. That will be 46 yrs ago this Dec

First time we met was in 1st. grade. NOTHING!

Continued to meet (same classes many times) through all schooling up to H.S. graduation. NOTHING!

She stopped at the gas station where I was working during my Senior year in college and something happened.

Married 35 years and seems like yesterday that the real thing happened. Only female in my life and only male in her life.

Skip and I met on line. Our first real life meeting was so romantic. He arrived at my house for dinner. When he got out of the car, I thought, Oh he is blonde! I had never ever even dated a blonde. He kept pulling things out of the car. Flowers, candy, a scratch and sniff rose t-shirt. I can't even remember what else he had.

After dinner we were setting on the front porch with my son(setting between us....lol) watching the full moon. He said to me "I could tell you something, but it would scare you away" I didn't even ask what, as I knew we were both in love. That was in March of 1999, we married in December of that year.

I sadly lost my Skip a few weeks ago. Thank you for this post. It brought back such sweet memories.

What a bitter-sweet story. I'll bet those nine years are ones to cherish.
I am so sorry for your recent loss and pray you find the needed strength from friends, memories and the thought that Skip is smiling down on you.

Street corner in 1990. My sister threatened to take my truck to meet up with her boyfriend & I said no I'll take you into town. At that time not much to do for kids in our town but hang out on street corners. My sister & I were hanging with her boyfriend & his friends & met up with a few more, one being Todd. When we left no one had pen & paper so he had to memorize my phone # first. He did call we dated, got engaged on Christmas Day in 1991 & were married on August 29, 1992. Christmas Day means allot to us since we had our DD on Christmas Day in 1993, she came 5 weeks early. Another interesting thing is we now live close to the street corner were we first met.
