I had just broken up with my boyfriend about a month earlier so I wasn't even interested in meeting anyone but my girlfriend begged me to go with her to a 4th of July Block Party in 1988. At night they were shooting off fire works and my girlfriend and I didn't have any place to sit, so this guy said we could sit in the back of his pickup truck. My friend and I talked to him all night but I always say I think he was trying to pick up her not me lol. Well he asked me for my phone number and asked if he could call me some time and I said sure, but before the night was over he wanted to know if he could call me the next day and I said sure. Four months later we were engaged with him coming into the bank that I worked at on a busy Saturday morning, he filled out a deposit slip making it out Name: my name Account Number: He wanted to open a account Amount: For the rest of his life with me Deposit: WILL YOU MARRY ME
He then got down on his knee in the crowded lobby and asked me to marry him. That was 19 yrs ago this past Aug 12th

These stories are all so wonderful and fun to read!
I met my husband on line in 2004. I was divorced with a 6 year old. We talked on the phone for hours for a few nights, then on Friday night we met at a bar where his roommates band was playing. We stayed up and talked all night. I knew that night that he was my soul-mate, and I would marry him some day. He lived around the corner from me. We dated for a few weeks then he got scared. We remained friends, then the following year I moved and he came over to help me unload the trailer. He never left. LOL That was in 05/05, he got down on one knee in the middle of Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco in October, and we eloped in January. We had our youngest a year ago, with another one planned for soon. He loves my oldest, and the feeling is mutual. They have great fun together.
I never had believed in soul-mates before I met him. Now I believe in that and in love at first sight.
Keep the stories coming!

A friend had invited him to church to meet this girl. (not me)
She also invited me to meet this guy.(not him)
Well, the "girl" she had in mind for him did not show that night. And,as the powers above will do from time to time, the "guy" she had intended for ME did not show up.
We met...in Feb. 1975 and married in Nov. 1975. (our 33rd is around the corner!)
He likes to tell everyone that I ASKED him, and in a way I did, but HE DID ASK ME FIRST....on the banks of the Buffalo River...I just "re-asked" him during a rocky time of our YOUNG relationship...and I moved the date up. He tells everyone I asked him to marry me in November and our daughter was born in December.....HE, HOWEVER, OMITS THE FACT THAT SHE WAS BORN IN DECEMBER OF 1997 (remember now, we married in 1975)!!!
Don't give a woman advice, one should never give a woman anything she can't wear at night!
When I originally posted this question several days ago I had no idea that I would help unleash such beautiful and compassionate responses.
Thank you all for confirming to me that there are still folks out there that still feel that "strange" but yet invigorating tug in your heart when you know that other person in your life is so very special, and deserves your total devotion and respect.
Now....if you still can, go tell them you love them!!

It was back in 93 before the computer dating age was so popular & besides, I didn't even know what a computer was anyway. Put a rather simple add in a dating column in some local newspapers. Over the next couple of months or so I fielded a bunch of phone calls & got up enough courage to actually date some of the ladies. One caller in particular had a nice voice. Talked a lot & finally agreed to meet in a coffee shop between our towns which were about 40 miles apart. I arrived at the coffee shop early & got a seat overlooking the parking lot. A beige Topaz drove in & a good looking blonde stepped out. (I've always had a big weakness for blondes) Thought to myself, "oh boy oh boy" I hope that's her.........and it was. Been to-gether now for 15 years & married for about 8 of them.

I met my DH in my freshman english class. He was the teacher's aid. I told a friend of mine that I would marry him before I ever spoke to him. We have been married 37 years next month.

WEll I went in the other room and told her I loved her. She said
"WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH CRAZY OLD COOT"?
To be real, I am a really, truly a blessed man!
OMG, where to start. Got married 6 months before going to RVN (in 67). Got a "Dear John" in RVN in 68. In 1970, my buddy from RVN and I are stationed near Seattle, so we share an apartment. My EX calls, "just wants to see me" so, cool, OK. My buddy & his G/F, me and the EX stop by KFC to see (G/F'S) friend. So intro's are made, (the EX still using my name). So the 4 of us leave KFC and my comment was - "I'm gonna marry that girl". Now my buddy ask's: WHO???
My reply: "The one with the long, dark hair, behind the cash register, whatever her name is". So eight months later, (1971) we get married.... and have been for 37 years and 2 girls with 4 grand kids. End of story?????? NOT QUITE. Summer of 2005, phone rings..."were you married to (EX)?. Answer: Yes. "I think your my Dad". DNA says 99.98 per cent. Finally meet daughter I never knew of, when she is 35 years, married and I have 2 more grand kids.
Yeah, it's been a different life.
