Last Friday I took my DP into the Goodyear tire dealer who handles the truck tire installations in the Vancouver area. The front tires have gradually worn into an out of round configuration with sculpting around the tires on the inside and outside edges. This has caused an irritating vibration. I thought the abnormal wear was likely caused by the front wheels being out of alignment. The manager of the tire shop says no, its caused by under inflation. I said I've been running with the tires inflated in accord with goodyears own inflation tables which call for 85 psi for my particular front axel loading. The tire shop says their guide says I should be running with the tires inflated to 97-100 psi in order to eliminate this abnormal wear. Has anyone else had abnormal tire wear when following the company's own inflation tables. This nreally irks me if indeed the problem is under inflation and not a mehanical problem. Weigh in guys,
Lloyd

Lloyd in another thread the references stated it was worn/damaged front end parts. In my case the front steering damper was totally shot so we replaced it and rotated the tires to the rear. Time will tell.

Are you going by actual weight of the front end or what the manufacturer of the coach says it should weigh? Probably a hugh difference between what you are told and actual. Personally I stick with the tire store. You should be running at or very near the max pressure.

This out of round condition you are talking abought is normaly caused by worn shocks. This and low tire pressure will cause it to ware on the outside edges.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm going to try the higher inflation pressure for a few hundred miles and see how it goes. The tire shop could not detect any component wear that would cause the abnormal tire wear. I might replace the shocks if they could be contributory. I've got 95,000 miles on them so it is quite concievable that they are due for replacement. I don/t know how many miles one should expect to get out of them and the old tried and true test that yolu do on tha cars is not practicable. In your opinion would I be due for replacement of the shocks and what is the current thinking on shocks? It used to be that Bilstiens were the odds on favorites but I've heard that many folks are noew touting the ssofter ride of the Monroe shocks. Which are the best in your opinion now and why?

I also suspect both shocks and underinflation.
