Park rear into the wind and as far from trees etc. as possible. Behind large brick or concrete buildings are good to use to block the wind. High ground if possible to avoid tidal surge.

As a wise stand-up comedian once said, it is NOT that the wind is blowing......it is WHAT the wind is blowing......

dicnic says
"At least with a hurricane you get 3-5 days notice. Tornadoes you get perhaps 15 minutes notice. Earthquakes you get NONE!!"

At least when we have an earthquake, we can still find our stuff as it's not scattered all over the state. Nothing like having a car or a cow land on your roof.
I think if a hurricane hit us here in northern California, I think parking would be the least of our worries. Get out of the way. Good luck.

Having lived to talk about more hurricanes than I care to talk about I would head that sucker north and haul arse fast. Maybe park it in Minnesota.

Tom - Been reading your posts and glad to see Fay had mercy on your area. I know the delima you were facing. Being from Northern Oklahoma we have our share of tornados and several years ago I decided to try to out run one that was forecasted to be about 15 miles from our home and headed straight toward us. Figured I didn't want to lose the house and MH both so about 8:00 PM, jumping up from supper we headed 50 miles east, the opposite direction it was coming from but it began to swerve more toward us so we headed south. Between the tornado and a hail storm we dodged around to almost 4:00 the next morning, drove over 350 miles, and the next morning found out nothing happened in our neighborhood, not even any strong wind. Neighbor 4 houses down the street had his MH setting in his driveway and not a scratch. Who can figure. But glad you were fine. Allen

Is it possible that you would be able to find an indoor storage for the rig? Even if the storage fee is high, best to pay it then taking the chance of having to look at water damage repairs if any debris should compromise the structure of the rig.

A little pre-emptive preparation could save you needless expense after the storm passes.

I am always amused by owners that "leave the RV as-is" in these situations. If the possibility of wind damaging the roof vents, then tape them shut. If windshield prone to debris damage, cover with styrofoam panels taped in-place with a strong tarp & rope covering. To lessen the wind exposure: park broadside to a house & place a SUV or vehicle on the opposite side.

Well Tom, looks like you Win. Its going to the Florida/Alabama border.

Thats one issue with running when you live on a peninsular. You can't run far enough!

Exactly.
We weigh the treat of each hurricane warning, to see if we should evacuate or not. This storm was not projected to be that severe, so we stayed. I wasn't concerned about the MH getting destroyed, just wondered what the consensus was as to leaving the jacks down or having the airbags inflated or not. Thought someone might have had some logical or scientific reason why one particular setting was better then another.
It seems all most people could respond with was to evacuate.
