My black tank valve allows some seepage when closed. So far it has been back to the dealer twice for this problem. The liquid collects in the drain tube and then drips into a pail I place beneath the sewer outlet connection. It wouldn't be so bad if the drain cap contained the liquid, at least you would be expecting it when dumping. If the valve leaks should the drain cap not hold any liquids in? The dripping into the pail in my opinion is not acceptable.

Have you tried a new drain cap ? Better yet, have they figured out what was the cause of the leaking gate valve ?

I haven't tried a new drain cap. The trailer is back at the dealer today and they are working on the valve. I am just looking for a backup plan as we are heading out tomorrow and won't have a chance to see if their repair is successful. It seems to take the dealer two or three trys for them to fix something.

Drain cap should contain any leaks, O-ring is probably bad buy a new drain cap. Either that or the surface the drain cap mates with is damaged. Its ABS and can be cut off and replaced. I'd also replace the Dump valve. Nothing worse than dealing with stinky leaking poop water.

I agree. Dump the dealer and replace the valve yourself, if you are so inclined, and you will be much happier. Try the drain cap replacement if you are in a hurry.

The valve has an O ring around the perimeter that seals it. With age, it deteriorates and stretches. Eventually it could stretch enough that it will open very hard and you will probably pull the handle off trying to open it. (I speak from experience here!)

A new valve is around $20, easy to replace and you will save yourself a nightmare later on!

It's quite easy to change the valve on most trailers (if you can see it and it is easy to get to). Empty and flush your tank. Put a pail under the outlet after you empty it and leave the valve open overnight to dry it out. There are four bolts to remove and you will probably have to pry the flanges off the valve.

When my grown kids were inspecting our new fifth wheel, one asked why we bought a trailer that sleeps 4. My reply was that we couldn't find one that sleeps 2!

I just replaced by gray & black valves. The Valves are around $11.00 a piece and takes about 30 minutes to replace. Mine was doing exactly what yours was.

I replaced my black tank valve this spring for $12. Took about 10 minutes to undo the 4 nuts/bolts and put the new one in.

Change the valve. You'll be much happier not having to worry what surprise is waiting for you behind the cap next time you remove it.
