hello

We are new to the RV world as we were tent campers for many years. We LOVE our new HTT! We have only had it out once, but are looking forward to MANY family adventures in the years to come.

I have a cooking question for you all. Do you cook "camp" foods or do you cook "regular" foods while you are camping?

Since we have been tent campers, I am used to the typical camping foods- hobo packs, dutch oven stews, etc, hamburgers and hotdogs and of course LOTS of marshmallows.

But the kitchen in the RV is all new to me and I totally love having it! We made pancakes and omelets for breakfast last camping trip. We have not used the oven yet, but the kids are begging for brownies next time we go!

I still plan on doing a lot of cooking outside, but think the stove and oven will expand our menu options and really help out if it is raining and we can't be outside cooking!

I plan on keeping some "emergency" dry goods in the HTT spaghetti, sauce, mac and cheese, cans of soup, etc, but am also looking for other ideas.

Also for those of you who do most of the cooking outside, what do make besides the usual camping foods?

Any and all suggestions will be most welcome!

Angie

We cook regular meals while camping, but my husband does love to get out his dutch oven out and doing something himself. Mind you I don't discourage this.

We do the regular cooking, burgers and dogs, but we also do sandwiches in the pie irons, fried chicken wings, soups and chili in the crock pots. On special occasions we steam up some shrimp, some corn on the cob and even grill some steaks.

As for inside, we never use the oven. The microwave does about 90% of the inside cooking and the stovetop the rest. Look for anything frozen that you can microwave. The stovetop is good for eggs, mac and cheese, rice, and a few other things I forget. Oh yes, don't keep too much in the RV during storage; the summer heat (at least down here) will prematurely age even can goods.

Our first night is usually "Take-n-Bake" pizzas we buy. We also did something fun last time. We bought frozen pizzas at a convenience store and grilled them. We put foil on the grill spryed with cooking no-stick spray and cooked at low to med. heat. They turned out great and the kids got a kick out of it.

We eat alot of the same food as home.

Congratulations on your new HTT!

When we're camping we eat a whole lot better than when we're at home. We pretty much cook regular food and most of it outside. We do use our oven, microwave, even a Nesco (portable oven), as well as a grill and Coleman 3-burner stove in our food preparation.

We plan out our menus and some of them are quite festive and complex. When we're camping we've got the time to enjoy meal preparation and the excellent end results.

Outside we prepare marinated pork tenderloins, chicken, pork chops, and of course, prime quality steaks. We've also grilled steak and chicken skewers.

Good luck, happy RVing and travel safe.

About the same as home lots of BBQing or propane if restrictions are in place (fire danger).I usually take everything out of the freezer at home and then throw it in the refer or ice chest.Stays cooler longer and uses less energy from the 5er.

We mostly cook outside, even breakfast. As we usually camp with a group, this means lots of tables, griddles, campstoves etc. It's lots of fun,and usually the guys cook breakfast. I used my oven this past weekend for biscuits. For evening meals we grill our choice of meat, and everyone pitches in sides. I pre-cook lots at home so all I have to do is mix up a salad or re-heat a side dish. I take along lots of quick to prepare sides also, like those 90 sec rice sides etc. I cook more than I do at home it seems, but I also don't mind as much!

We have two rules for the oven:

1. fresh biscuits for breakfast, daily.
2. home baked cookies for evening dessert, daily.

I am starting to take the generator more often for short weekend trips. I got a margarita machine for Christmas. Maybe I should get an inverter.
