Question: Do you have to have a container (dryer tub) for a campfire, or can I just make my own pit?
Thanks for all the tips/feedback.

Make your own pit. Don't forget to bring a shovel and a good tow strap. Bring something to secure your toys and gas cans with. They have been known to walk off by themselves. All the info you've got so far is good imo especially the guy that said there's a big difference between 15lbs and 20lbs psi in the tires. I like 14 psi on my truck and 20 psi on my trailer. I pull the valve cores (bring extras if you do this) and use a digital gauge myself.
Ride safe and have fun!

Just don't bring any wood with nails in it.
Airing down is not as easy as going down to 15 or 20 pounds. It all depends on the type of tires you have the weight of your trailer and more. A jeep driving in with no trailer can easily go down to 15 psi, but on my truck I take my rear tires down to about 25 psi and they look mighty flat, the fronts I take down to 20 and the trailer tires down to 20. All you are looking for is some floatation, once the tire starts to bulge or the side wall begins to become flexible you should be good to go. You can always take it down further if you get stuck. The other thing to consider is the size of your wheels, some tires don't have beads and can pop one easily.

If you do dig your own fire pit. Dig deep and cover it up before you leave. That way some else does not come up on it unexpected.

Thanks for all the help!
I've got my nail-free firewood, my caution tape and compressor ready to roll. We leave in the morning. I'll post some pictures of the disaster/success when we get back.
Wish me luck.

So we're back. The trailer is a mess, the toys are a mess... sand... everywhere.
We got there Wed. at about noon, which was high tide. We waited an hour for it to start going down. I didn't know where to stop so I pretty much went to the end of the camping area. The sand was REALLY soft towards the end. Thankfully I got my rig turned around without getting stuck - after being reassured by some friendly campers.
We finally found a perfect beach front spot right next to pole 5. A really great camp spot. The wind blew all day until about 6pm. I've never eaten so much sand in my life. That was pretty miserable and I was wondering why anyone liked the place. Thankfully thursday the wind calmed some and then friday the wind was calm all day.
Next time I will bring a big tarp to lay over the toys at night. They were nasty and grimy every morning.
Altogether a VERY fun trip. Thanks for all the tips and input. We didn't even get stuck, though I did get the rhino stuck once.

Yeah you experienced the summer Pismo weather. Most days nice until 11:00 and then windy (like tie everything down you down want to blow 10 miles away) and then it dies down after the sun goes down. Of course it varies if a low happens to push up from baja, etc, but its like that everytime we go during the summer. Winter is calmer when there's no storms brewing.
Looks like it wasnt very busy for later in the summer before school starts...

That picture was on Wed. When we left on saturday it was quite full behind us. I think we'll stick to the week next time for sure. We're not big on crowds.

In a couple of weeks the big crowds will be all gone. It's great to be there when no one is around.
