My brother told me that using WD-40 on the tires helps to keep them from cracking. Is this true or will it damage the tires?

I'm sure others will weigh in on this, but I do not see how this will help your tires, WD40 being a petroleum product combined with a solvent. I could see this getting on the the brakes and reducing stopping ability. It will probably make your tires shine with a 'wet' look like the tire dressings do.

Not WD40 but 303 protectant which is made for rubber. We use it on the leading edgesof aircraft on the rubber deicer boots. I was using WD40 on my ankle which has no cartlege after a motorcycle accident in '49. My doctor didn't like it, I now have done well with Gloucosomine/Chondritin aand no more pain.

WD40 is not a good thing to put on your tires. Yes, it will make them look black and clean for a short period of time. BUT, it will also dry them out and actually lead to failure (cracking) faster.
One of the best products for your tires is 303 Protectant. Enviromentally safe, and a great UV protectant. The suns UV rays are what are harmful to your tires.
We are all good at something.....
I just happen to be a good bad example.
Occasionally in error but never in doubt.

This is a perfect test. You use 303 or nothing and tell us how the WD40 works on your brothers tires. I use WD40 quite a bit, but not on my tires. Actually, I cover idle tires and don't put anything on the rest.

I now use 303 where I used to use armorall years ago.Anything that is a petroleum product will cause deterioration. Use it on tires, window moldings(if you want) and all plastic bed rails and such on my truck.
Its a bit more expensive but I dont want my bedrails to fade as I have seen numerous times.

WD-40
Water Displacement - formula 40
If you're removing the water, you're drying out the tires.
Also, most people think that wd40 is lubricant, it is not, it is a cleaner (penetrant) that does leave a film behind that some can mistake as a lubricant.

Have to agee with everyone. WD-40 is a petroleum base product and will do much more harm than good. I use 303 and am very happy with it.
