Adding a second 12v battery(had it laying around) to my Toy Hauler. How do I wire them to keep it at 12 Volts? Thanks,

You might want to be aware it is a very bad idea to connect 2 dissimilar batteries in your rig. If they are not the same amperage etc and the same age they will take the charge differently. In the worst scenario this could lead to a fire, best scenario is one of the batteries (the weaker one) will be overcharged and fail early.

Just be sure when you are not camping that the batteries are not hooked together. If one is weaker, it will "drag the better one down with it".

Also, I was once "hounded" to install a Perko "Left, Right, Both, Off" switch....And, after I did, I appreciated the "hounding".

So, consider yourself hounded!

Agree that its not the best idea to connect two dissimilar batteries but: just how in the world will that cause a fire?????????
Inquiring minds want to know the basis for that theory.

Thats the best article ever. It really explains the proper wiring to get max balance. I would have argued that it doesn't make any difference when it comes to where the leads feed off the battery bank. What a learning experience.

The overcharged battery that receives continued charging current, will covert that electrical energy into heat, causing the battery to get hot and produce excessive hydrogen gas, which may result in an explosion and/or fire. Jack
