Hopefully some of you NM residents can bail me out.
Some time ago wife ran across article about old mining area in SW NM whose name had Canyon in it. (White Oak Canyon or Oak Canyon or White Csanyon?) Supposed to be nice area with nice camp ground.
Not sure if it is state , Fed or private. I actually had it earmarked once (I think) but got new computer and l lost the site.
IIRC There is a walkway that follows the old stream bed or pipeline to the orig mining site.
Sorry this is so vague but it is vague in my fuzy brain.
Any help appreciated.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the hell out of the pig.
Not sure, but you may be referring to the Catwalk along Whitewater Creek near Glenwood, NM. See the link below for one persons writeup of the area. There is a campground in Silver City, but I am not sure of any nearer the Catwalk. Hope this helps.
We visited there a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the walk up the canyon. Lots of photo ops along the walk.
Up by Glenwood is the "Catwalk" that you are refering to. East of Silver City on Hwy 152 is the Santa Rita openpit copper mine. There is City of Rocks SP off of Hwy 180 SE of Silver City. Rockhound SP is just South of Deming. Hope this helps.
The road in to the Catwalk's parking lot is quite narrow & with low branches in places (but paved). The Parking lot itself can accomodate a few RV's (possibly a problem on a busy weekend however) in addition to the cars if everyone plays nice.
Near the turnoff to the Catwalk is a USFS dry camp...no amenities, lots of broken liquor bottles and possibly a few permanent 'campers'. Rough and not well tended but you could overnite there as well as in any WM lot There may be an RV park in Glendale.
The town of Silver city is good for a visit (Billy The Kid history) and the Gila Cliff ruins are a lot of fun. The drive there is not for RV's, although a longer drive in can be done in smaller RV's.
