Hoping some of you experienced travelers can give me the best & quickest route from Sacramento, Ca. to Vinton, La. Google map list I-5 through Ca. to I-10 on to La. Are there better routes? I will be driving a (new to me) 2004 National Sea Breeze that I purchased there.
Thanks,
Curt

I would take I 5 down to hwy 46 which cuts over to 99, take 99 south to Bakersfield, then east on 58, to Kramer Junction. Take 395 south to I 10. That way you miss the Grapevine and the Los Angeles traffic.
Good road all the way.

Just don't go too far on 99 as the wind blows like crazy across the road causing huge dust storms. I would go as far as you can on I-5 before crossing over to Bakersfield. There is a great campground just outside of Bakersfield, Orange Grove I think is its name and rightly so, you camp right in the middle of a huge Orange grove. But, the fruit is ripe in October/November.
Good luck!

Thanks Modracer & Dicnic, for the tips. I have until the 27th to plan my route back home. Never driven in Ca. so I would like the easiest path.

Modracer outlined a good route. However, I would suggest avoiding US 395 south. I've driven it too many times to count. First of all it is a lousy 2-lane stretch with dips and double yellow lines most of the way due to so many head-on accidents. It dumps you on I 15 and you must take it south down the Cajon Pass to I 10. You can save yourself a lot of traffic by continuing east on SR 58 to Barstow then north on I 15 for a short distance to I 40 then east. That way you can cut down to I 10 on the interstate of your choice: I 17, I 25 etc. Have fun!

chevy lover is right, we usually go to Needles and then go south on 95 thru Havasu. to I 10. It cuts out Riverside and San Berdo.
