I found this used Pull Rite Super Glide 5th wheel hitch 16K with under bed rails. Two years old super rails for Chevy GMC 2500HD. Also have QuickConnect Capture Plate for trailer pin box. Before I will give him my hard earned money, what do I have to look for as far as condition of the hitch. Thanks

Check the Pullrite website to be sure the super rail kit fits your truck. Also look at the way tubes to make sure there is no excessive galling of the rail surfaces. Apart from that, check for any damage and proper functioning of the hitch latch. Others will probably chime in.

If it is a good price, and in good shape I would grab it. They are great hitches, and you can buy the mounting kit if you need to from Pullright. Also make sure 16K is big enough for your trailer.

You might also want to look at the underside of the hitch. Especially be concern about the rust on some of the bolts. Ask when it was last used and you might want to have a dealer take a look at it. I found one on Craiglist and after looking at pictures more closely, I decided it was worth the additional $500 for a new hitch. Since they have stopped making the 16K pullright, there might be a few dealers willing to give you a great price on a new 16K.

I am getting it for $1000.00 including the super rail bracket for GMC 2500. He sold his fiver so he is selling it. I checked on the internet and the cost of a new 18k package is $2200.00 free shipping. Thanks for your advises.

Hope you can install yourself...most dealers/shops won't install used equipment...insurance issues.

More accurately, profit issues.

Sounds like a damn good price to me. There is very little to go wrong with an SG if it was lubricated correcly to begin with. Look at the inboard surfaces of the way tubes as well as the top. The inner walls should not be galled either. Way tubes can have two lives anyway, just remove them, re-drill the mount bolt holes and reinstall them to orient two new surfaces (top and inside). You can also operate the hitch by hand to insure that it is smooth and inspect the tubes and nylon block.

Even if you do need a new nylon block, if this thing is not a rust ball, you can get small replacement parts easily and reasonably. And a little black paint goes a long way.

Go for it! You won't be sorry.
