Take a light jacket. It can get cool at night this time of year.

Have a great trip.

While you are on the NC side take a drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We drive up to Mt.Pisgah and come back down thru Waynsville-Cherokee.

Yeah for you! We are going to Elkmont in early October. We usually stay at Cades Cove but it was booked solid! We've been wanting to stay at Elkmont anyway. Have a great time!

I hear you! I had a hard time getting reservations at Cades Cove, we had a two week window to work with.,....I can't believe it is so crowded. DH and I thought this would be a great time to go and get away from the summer vacationers and kids?

Can anyone tell me what the weather is usually like in the Smokey Mountainds during the end of Nov? Can you travel in the mountains during Nov.? Are the campgrounds open?

I've stayed at Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in November before. I don’t remember seeing anything closed. Of course there could be an unseasonal snow storm hit that could change things, but unlikely.

nolsonrn with this old post revived. How was your trip?

we camped in Elkmont 3rd week in November one year (7 or 8 years ago), Cold and wet the whole week. We had to leave 1 day early as there was a cold front moving in and they expected to close New Found Gap road due to Ice and possible snow in upper elevations.

As we drove across New Found Gap Back South, All the mountain Tops around Chimney Tops were White. Really a beautiful site.

The campgrounds were empty that whole week as was the park itself.

We camp every year at Cades Cove for Thanksgiving. Never can tell about the weather. We 1st starting making it a tradition about 6 yrs ago. 1st time, it snowed & it was so fun! Sometimes, you just need sweats & lightweight jacket. We love it! So, we take layers of clothing. We have been known to head to the Dollar General for extra sweats, gloves, etc! They will close the rd across the mtn if it ices over. I love Cades Cove when it snows, such a beautiful sight to see! It just feels like Christmas.
