For those interested in new GM truck deals:

AutoNews 8-18-2008 DETROIT -- General Motors says it will be offering an employee discount for everyone sale starting Wednesday. The sale will apply to all of GM's eight brands.
"We are going to have an employee discount for everyone program," GM spokesman John McDonald confirmed today. "We are going to issue a press release tomorrow morning with the details."
In a memo to Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealers, GM said the sale would run Aug. 20 through Sept. 2. For the B-P-G channel, the employee pricing would apply to all 2008 models and the 2009 Pontiac Vibe. Customers could get up to $6,000 cash plus the employee discount. The memo notes that 91 percent of BPG inventory is eligible for the sale.
All 2008 models for Chevrolet would also be eligible for the discount, a dealer said.

They did that back in early 05 also. Almost bought one, but ran across my used Dodge instead. Never have second guessed buying the used Dodge over a new GM and only saved $2000 or so going used. With the way my luck is, I would have had a LLY overheater.

I DID buy an 05' dually when GM had the employee pricing. Best thing
I'd done in a long time. The 05' was a loaded out dually, priced at
around $50,000, ended up, with trade, paying around 33,000 for it, so when I purchased sig. TV last year, I got suppliers discount, plus rebate, plus customer loyality, PLUS I got an awesome trade in price due to the amount of equity I had in the 05'. Sig TV, "stickered" at about $53,000, by the time I was done, It was little under $33,000. I was pickled tink...I mean tickled pink..I'd say before it's all over, Ford and Dodge will join in with GM on the "employee pricing". Get the one you like best....oh, and remember...none of them are giving anything away and they're not losing money on these deals...you do the math...

This is good news for those of us who are in the market for a new TV.

Here is a question. Is there any additional room for price negotiations with the dealers? Since every vehicle already has its own fixed individual employee price, do you just take that number and subtract the GM cash rebate or that the dealers are still willing to do some negotiations beyond that? Does anyone have experience on such deals that you would like to share?

I would guess that the dealers would not be negotiating (unless they need some specific sales to reduce floorplan financing). This GM Employee price is a specific price. Additionally, this has been available for the last month from any employee. They had allowed employees to give one discount to non-family members.

Still too rich for my blood. All the dealers around here stick by their high prices. I was checking out the Fords the other day and for a F250 Super Duty crew cab that windowed for $44K, they wanted $26500 and my 2005 Dodge and had the nerve to say that I was getting "over" the book trade. Righhhhhtttttttt. No discout whatsoever that I could see. Was told that used trucks weren't selling very well and I said I could see that as not too many people were in line ahead of me to buy one. There inventory has been sitting there for about the last four months or so.

Another attempt to reduce the over load of unsold inventory and keep their factories working. Will it work? Hope so, but I have my doubts. Ford has been doing that for quite a while and still the inventory sits on dealers lots. When there is no money to buy food and pay house payments people certainly will not be going out and buying new cars and trucks. Thanks Nancy Pelosi!

That is just what GMC needs to bump up the bottom line, NOT! They already loose billions of dollars selling cars at MSRP so now they are going to loose even more money by selling them below MSRP. When is this manufacturer going to do us all a favor and go belly up? Hyundai and Daihatsu could use the manufacturing space in North America.

NOT! GM and the rest of the American auto makers are loosing money not because of their inability to sell cars at a profit. They are loosing money because of the foolish mistakes management has made over the last 30 or so years. Giving hugh consesions to to the workers like lifetime health care, big buyouts to get then to retire early are short sited. It reduces the dollars spent this year, but what about in ten years when that health care package doubles or triples in cost. Who pays for that? Other than government workers I have never been in or seen an industry that gives so much to retired people as the auto industry. Couple that with their diversifying that has cost them billions and it is no wonder they are in big trouble. They need to stick to their core business and get out of things like finance.

Don't know what your going to tow your 5er with, but until Hyundai, Toyota or whoever builds a 3/4 ton, 1 ton SRW or a dually, it appears,
IF we still want to tow our "heavier" 5er's...we NEED Dodge, Ford and GM to still build their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks...I'm sure the others can find plenty of space in North America to build whatever they want or need to build. The big three have made a lot of mistakes, taken a lot of things for granted, etc, and now, they are paying for it, but if you think for a minute they're "losing" money with the "all employee" pricing, then I have some property I'll sell you on the side of a mountain up here in NC for a real good price.
A good deal can be had, just takes some running around and some haggling..I'm not brand loyal...when I've traded, I went with the best deal I got, IF it would have been a Dodge or a Ford at the time, that is what you would have seen in my sig. Guess I've been in the right place at the right time the pass couple of times I've traded, AND I do like the D/A combo.
