Keeps you safe and you don't have to worry about the flameout. Gotta love a 3-way fridge.

As long as the charge circuit from the truck can keep up.

Some very good ideas, enough so that I can take care of my problem. I had not thought about the screen idea, seems like that would also keep out the bugs as well.
A 3 way fridge would be nice but I don't have one. My main concern as well has been that we are going to Portsmouth Island NC this September for a week and there is not any power there at all so you have to be dependant on your gas, not freeway speeds on the island but usually a lot of wind.
Thanks again.

I also have a 3-way. I run on batteries when traveling. The truck keeps them charged up.

All you guys worried about empty bins and beer. I filled it up for flyrodbuilder, in hopes he'll build me a rod. Should be enough to go around...

Now, that is what I am talking about.
I put hardware cloth in/on every vent in my TC, including the vent on the roof for the refer. It keeps out the Wasp, Mud Dobbers, and other critters that build nest in the TC. I do not know if it helps the refer pilot or not.

I am confused by this thread. Do many of the Dometic refers have pilots? We have a Dometic two way (120VAC or Propane) and it operates with a self igniting pilot. Never found that the frig isn't working upon arrival at our destination.
Just completed our trip to Northern Oregon coast, total of 1616 miles and never had a single issue.

I have had the opposite experience in HOT weather. My truck does a good job normally in keeping the charge up, but if the refer has to run extensively in HOT (90 deg +) weather, then its a losing battle. I speak from experience on this. When it's HOT, I run on propane now. I really don't want to arrive at a site (normally non-electric for us) to find that I am at 50% battery from the get go. I make sure the refer is off at fuel stops (diesel BTW), otherwise all's been fine.

I have a Norcold which was blowing out while traveling in very windy area.. Bought some aluminum window screening, secured it to surround the burner area using small high strength magnets. Easily removed for servicing or warranty work and cured the problem.
