I just saw this on my gun users site.. Forgive me if it has been posted before. It just sounded like a cool idea.

ZIPLOC OMELET

(This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together. The
best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet!!!)

Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot.

For more, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Don't be fooled by the exactly 13 minute line...........there are lots of variables that can skew that number........we usually find cloeser to 20 minutes to work........we use a turkey fryer and put more than 6-8 bags in though.......

Our daughter and their family do this when "tenting". They love it -- especially when camping because it's easy, fast, everyone gets their favorite ingredients and clean-up is minimal.

We just came back from camping and we have already tried this approach/method. It works great when you have a large group. Don't use the 13 minute as to determine when it is cooked. Some may have more ingredients and thus will require more time to cook. How I determine if it is cooked is to squeeze the pouch with a tong and if liquid (egg) squeezes out, it is not cooked.

I don't know about the cancer part, but it does say right on the Ziploc website that their bags "are not designed to withstand the extreme heat of boiling."

On edit: When we have a group I often break a dozen eggs into a 12 cup muffin tin and bake them. Then I serve them with up with english muffins, canadian bacon, (or sausage patties) and cheese, and let people assemble them into their own "egg mcmuffins." Always seem to be a hit...

if you put fresh mushrooms in the bag, they'll generate a LOT of water as they cook, and require more time to solidify.

That's a great idea, I'll have to try that one.
