Good for the HOA. I know exactly where this area is and I wouldn't want to be staring at one either. HOA's have their rules so abide by them or don't buy a house there, it's just that easy. I'll bet they can park it in their garage just like others in the neighborhood are doing (according to the article), but they choose to make a big deal out of it for their 15 minutes of fame.
I'm very pleased that our HOA enforces parking rules as well. There's plenty of places to live, so make your choice according to what you want, that's all.

HOA's suck. What a bunch of haughty losers. I understand drawing the lines regarding how a house looks or what kind of fencing is used, but saying an F 150 can't be parked in the drive is outrageous.
That's stupid. It's amazing how so many people are out of touch with reality.
Happy trails!!

You are missing my point, I agree that he should have read the rules before moving, buyer beware. My point is that the difference between a Lincoln Mark LT (pictured) and a Ford F-150 Lariat (pictured) is literally the name on the tailgate. Both have leather seats, power everything, etc.
HOAs have their place. I'm on the board of directors for my area (about 3,500
homes and not a planned community, but just regular homes) and can see both
sides of this.
Confirms that most think of trucks more as 'cars' than trucks these days. So when
it looks like a 'truck', it's no longer a 'car' to them.
Also agree, if you don't like the rules, either work to have them changed or move
or don't buy there in the first place.
Silly some times, HOAs, or more pointedly, the folks who run them.
Ex father in law had a beef with the cable contract the HOA signed. He had just
joined the board 'after' that contract was signed. So he canceled his cable and
the rest of the board wanted to force him, but after they reviewed it with their
lawyer, dropped it...till one of them noticed that he still had TV in his house.
Another round of threats, etc...after they found out I had put up an antenna in
his attic. They 'tried' to outlaw that, but if it isn't visible from public
areas, it is okay...why parking these 'trucks' inside is okay...
Another city wide issue came up a few years ago similar to this. Once
the city council heard this arguement, they finally realized how
slippery the slope was they were on...banning SUVs by placing a weight
limit on their streets....
3 Ton is what they proposed.
Hey, how will the gardeners, water bottle delivery, UPS, etc manage?
Well, we'll give them a variance for 'business'.
Hey, what about the guy who will then put a business placard on his
SUV?
Well, we'll just have to make sure they have a business license.
Hey, what about the Mercedes S500 you guys drive?
Huh?
Hey, they weigh more than 3 tons when fully loaded.
Hey, how's about the family RV, or that church 15 passenger van?
Well they decided against that stupid proposal...

It is silly to buy in a HOA area then complain about the rules. I am sure this same person signed a copy of the HOA covenant before closing on his property. If there was a rule he didn't like, he should have bought in another location. It is not the fault of his neighbors that he can not read and understand the covenants nor understand the difference between a luxury SUV and a pick up truck. If he doesn't like it, he can hit the bricks.
I'd agree with you that the law, right and wrong, and common sense do not always match, and that the buyer must always beware.
But, you have no common sense and are a huge snob since you feel it's great that an F-150 is verboten and Lincoln-branded essentially identical truck is not.
It will be interesting to see if this guy will be able to affect the law with common sense, but that's not guaranteed.

No we're not, YOU don't get it: That little Lincoln emblem on the tailgate makes it a snobmobile and the F-150 emblem makes it a redneckmobile (Just razzing you- I agree that common sense and the law are divergent here, although it's also classic HOA snobbyness too!)
I DO like HOAs, live in one, and truly understand their value.
With regard to the differences between the two PUs, I agree it is much ado about nothing. However, if that is the rule of the HOA, so be it. Abide by the rules, get them changed, or leave. Simple as that.
