Thought about moving to a new house until i started reading some of the HOA rules for the areas we wanted to move to. Forget it, i'll stay right where i'm at, the HOA rules have expired(one of the members stole all the money and skipped town) and we now follow the city rules. I can keep my RV parked next to the house behind the fence.
After bashing this incident, I should probably say that:
It is easier to much easeir to trash up a neighborhood than it is to write laws.
It is also much easier to trash up a neighborhood than it is to enforce common sense.
Thus, HOA's and covenants tend towards the restrictive side of things, and sometimes stuff like this happens.
Like I said earlier: Right and wrong, the law and common sense do not mesh anywhere near perfection, and it will be interesting to see what happens if this individual (who is currently bound by his contract that he was supposed to read and understand) is able to change the rules to address this case of weak logic.

I'd agree with you that the law, right and wrong, and common sense do not always match, and that the buyer must always beware.
But, you have no common sense and are a huge snob since you feel it's great that an F-150 is verboten and Lincoln-branded essentially identical truck is not.
It will be interesting to see if this guy will be able to affect the law with common sense, but that's not guaranteed.
I bet Texasbaskets is really concerned that you don't like him! I guess you will have to lump me in with him. Now I'll worry about this for the rest of the day. Woe is me!
Yes, spoken as someone who has no concern whatsoever for others, nor common sense, nor right and wrong. Truly the definition of a snob.
Yep, that's me all right. Obviously the fact that I spent 20+ years as an enlisted man in the service, in various and assorted combat areas, left me with no common sense, no concern for others, nor the understanding of the difference between right and wrong. I really must be a snob. It always amazes me how someone who doesn't know anything about another person can be so quick to criticize.
LOL I bought into an HOA, and the rules state "all rvs must be parked under the car ports. No on street or yard parkingno rules on size of carport, only must be attached to the house)"
Simple, I raised the carport to cover the rv. Boy were they mad.
I agree this is not anything more than people being snobs. The trucks are both made on the same line and in the dark look the same. I used to work in this part of town when I lived in Dallas. I once had someone call in about my service truck being parked where you could see it.Reminds me of the people in Plano saying that all roofs had to be real wood. Rule was in place until houses started burning down. But if you do not like the rules (as stupid as they are) do not move in.And yes I have seen some approved cars and trucks in pretty bad shape parked in the driveway.Alot worse than this new F150.
The word Association in HOA means that you are automatically a member when you buy in. You have the right to vote at the meetings, run for office, present petitions, etc. However, in my limited experience, 90% of the members never attend a meeting or even vote in elections instead they just cry and moan about the rules they don't like. I would ask the OP has the gentleman that was referenced presented petitions to the board signed by other truck owners in the community? Has he run for office? Has he attended Association meetings to voice his complaint? He apparently freely joined the Association and agreed to abide by the Association rules but he has the right to work within the system to change the rules.

Once again, it is not the HOA that I have an issue with it is the Lincoln Mark LT vs. the F-150. I agree that if you sign anything, you better read it first, and if you don't like something be proactive about it just like you wrote. I even agree that they have a right to tell you you have the wrong brand of truck if you signed a contract agreeing to their rules. I just think they are being silly making rules specifically saying you can drive a Lincoln, but not a Ford, etc. I am willing to wager that the original authors of the HOA rules were about to eliminate all trucks but then realised that they themselves either owned or had friends and family that drove trucks and they put these models on the approved list. Happens more than you think...
And they are getting a lot of media attention that is surely embarrassing.

That's why I quickly got branded as a snob from what appear to be jealous people who lumped together anything with the word Frisco. The other homeowners in that neighborhood have a right to defend their property values as well, and believe me, they will show up at the meetings if the time comes. My experience living for 17 years in HOA's, being on two boards over the period of 5, and as a Code Enforcement officer is that it can go both ways. But even though I know that area, some didn't get from my post that a majority of the people probably don't own an F150, and everyone's vote counts the same. I doubt they seriously care what people in another neighborhood, let alone another city or state think, and they shouldn't.
Said another way, there is a possibility all pickups might end up in the garage if it goes to a vote. Especially now that this guy has made such a big issue out of it... LOL.
