Early 2008 Cameo have problems with slide gear slipping. Carriage fix is to replace the motor which will last for a while. Real problem is the gear fit and gear to shaft fit. RBW which makes the parts is supplying junk parts from China. Our deler is having new gears made. Carriage has been no help in fixing problem. You can inspect your motor to gear match by unzipping access under trailer - pushing insulation back and use a mirror and light to see how motor gear and drive gear match. Trailers with problem -the big gear will wobble and contaact point will be 1/16" square on extreme point. Gear and motor gear teeth do not match.

Don't know what your asking, sounds like you should have warranty work done on the unit as new as it. You also add that "their" fix isn't going to work...cheap parts that don't match up. Never thought I'd hear that about Carriage. Sounds like you need to fix it yourself if your not going to be happy with the dealer/manufacturer repairing the problem. Guess you could tell them how to fix it and see what happens. Good luck

We have friends with a 2008 SB3, they have had issues with the living room side and the kitchen slide. In all cases RBW & Carriage stood behind their products. And Yes, until the latest update they had the same slides fail 2 or 3 times each. It has now been 6 months and no issues.

We have a 2008 Carri-Lite 36SBQ and have not had problems with slides. Carriage make their own frames and they are very good with warrantee problems. Have not heard anything on Carriage forum about these problems or anyone we know in the Carriage network.

I have followed the carriage group on a daily basis since I got my unit in 2006, and have to say your claim is the first I've heard of this problem, and there are over 1300 Carriage owners on the group, and you haven't mentioned it there.
Is there something else going on here??

We're also Cameo owners and spent a month in our FW this summer bumping around Florida and didn't have one problem with the slides. OP could you please give us more details?

The slide gear problems are not made up. However I don't think they are near as wide spread as first thought. They seem to affect the 2008 SBQ Cameos more then any of the other units from what I understand. Go figure, the SBQ is their most popular floor plan in the Cameo line.

Does it seem odd that the OP's dealer is having "new gears made" to replace RBW's "junk parts from China?

On the other hand, that's one great dealer...willing to go the extra mile to have custom parts manufactured to correct another manufacturer's design flaw.

Yeah, that would not be cheap. Last I heard on the subject was that RBW knew they had issues with design changed made for the 2008 units and were working on it. I would imagine a company that wants to stay in business would be willing to fix these issues.

I have a 2008 F35SB3 that came off the line in April. Prior to getting the unit, I had monitored the Carriage forum on Yahoo and was made aware of a reported problem with the gears stripping on the slides and an issue with some of the slides bowing.

I immediately checked with the factory and was advised that the motor/gear problem was a known issue as well as the issue with bowed slides on some of the models. Carriage assured me that in both cases, the situation had been resolved and dealers were provided with the information on how to correct these items. Also, that the issues have been resolved on any units coming off the line after the issues were discovered. I know that my unit's slides have been trouble free so far and since we use our unit at least 2 weeks straight out of each month.

Personally I would be a little leery of any dealer that is having new gears made. All the feedback on the Carriage forum has been very positive about Carriage's responses to any slide issues and warranty work. In fact one owner addressed how Carriage replaced the slide motor well out of warranty without any additional cost.
