A little more info will help. Do you need hook-ups? What are you camping in or type RV?

We camped there about three years ago with a 32 ft class A and no towed car. If you want hookups, you are limited to Fishing Bridge CG which is not overly scenic and is really a glorified parking lot. The other CGs do not have hookups and some are limited in size of vehicle they will accomidate. We liked Madison CG, Bay Bridge CG, and if your rig is short enough, about 30 feet, Norris CG. In September, you should have no problem getting a site and you will not need reservations. Note though that basically all Yellowstone CGs were designed for much shorter rigs than most folks have these days. Beautiful place and I hope you have a great time.

Don't expect too much of the campgrounds. On average you'll find them cramped and expensive for what they are. Take plenty of $$.

Are you camping, or do you want to park a RV? If the latter, and hookups are wanted, then Fishing Bridge CG inside the park, or a commercial RV park outside.

For camping, Madison and Grant Village are nice.

Yellowstone starts to shut down some of there camping sites by mid September. That is, they start by limiting camping spots to certain camping areas as there winter season starts. This process allows a more orderly fashion in closing each remote site. So by mid September you should find enough sites, but be prepared to move to other spots as necessary.

Our coach in Canyon, the day after we spent the night in Uncle Tom's parking lot trying to get to Fishing Bridge. Road closed due to snow

Fishing Bridge in between snows

Grizzly RV. And yes the parking is crooked. When we arrived there was 8" of snow on the ground.

This was June. In september be prepared for some snow.
