I forgot how dealing with mom and pop businesses are such a pain, will I ever learn my lesson!

I bought a jack from this mom and pop store but it just wans't big enough for what I wanted. I never even opened the package which is shink-wrapped.

I go back to the store to return the jack but I don't have my receipt. BUT the stores glued on name and price tag are still on the box. The manager would not return the item, said they don't make returns without a receipt. He wouldn't even give me store credit, basically I was out of luck for any type of return or exchange. What a crock!

As you can all guess, this $20 item just cost them any more of my business. I went to Wal-Mart and bought what I wanted and gave the smaller jack to a local donation center.

People wonder why big stores like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes and Costco take business away from these mom and pop places... Too many of the little stores won't provide decent customer service, so why even bother doing business with them only to find out later.

I hate to say it, but I'm done trying to support local business. I'm only going to purchase from the bigger places who can offer me the type of service a business should and a customer deserves.

So next time don't lose your receipt! Don't blame them for a mistake you made.

I'd put that $20 dollar jack on Ebay. You'll probably get $40 for it....

If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.

Nope. That's a rule applicable only to other people.

I hate to hear you won't be doing business with mom & pop stores... there are so few of them left. We have a small feed store we enjoy doing business with and even though they have a little higher prices we try buy from them because they are convenient and for the most part pretty friendly to the "neighbors".

I guess you did learn a lesson after all, it pays to keep receipts no matter where you shop. Too bad they didn't work to help you any more than that though....a nice gesture could save a lot of business!

You know folks, people do lose receipts. It happens. A little common sense used by a store owner would be nice. Is it worth losing a customers business, over a $20 store credit??? If the item is still shrink wrapped and has the price and store name on it, why in the world would you lose a customers business over this??

I have returned something at Penny',without a receipt and received store credit, which I was happy with.

I also returned an item more than once to Home Depot without a receipt for store credit.

That's GOOD business imo.

Maybe that's the reason my dh run a successful tool business for nearly 40 years. He didn't make up stupid rules.

Frank, I don't blame you, I wouldn't be going back either.

Without a receipt, how do you know that the jack wasn't stolen? Frank is kinda shifty lookin.

No receipt. No refund. No credit. Go pound sand.
